Avery pulls his true center, moves Dirk to "center" hoping to get Riley to bench Shaq and get the Diesel off the court. Riley says small ball, and the Heat attack the rim at will with no fear of Dirk blocking shots.

    End result:

22-7 run by Miami over the last 7 minutes, and the win.

Small ball gets you beat in the western conference finals, and it does in the NBA Finals too.

Hope you Pop lovers are paying attention.

Actually if you bothered watching the games, Riley tried to go small and matchup with the Mavs in the first two games. Tonight, at the end, he didn't.

just curious, what Spurs center, would've attacked the rim, like Shaq?

Who said anything about a Spurs center attacking the rim? Shaq didn't even attack the rim, it was the swingmen for the Heat.

Again, it's about the fact that with no other big in there besides Tim, Dallas was free to attack the rim at will against us (points in the paint).

Avery had no center, no shot blocking in there, and Miami teed off from the paint. What'd Wade have in the fourth? 16? And all but about 3 of that came from the paint.

No bigs = no rebounding and no shot blocking.

The reason why I is because the Heat went on their huge 4th quarter run with Dirk and Dampier in there. The Mavs just played soft D with Harris going underneath the screens guarding Wade plus the Heat played inspired and knocked down some shots. Also Dallas didn't go to Dirk for scoring enough in the last 5 minutes except for only a 2 or 3 shots.

Solid, Dampier got lifted with about 4 minutes to play if I remember right. After that, the flood gates were wide open.

Wade had 15 points, 4 points came in the paint. he hit jumpers from 23ft, 15ft, 17ft, and 20ft for 9 points and 2 free throws

Notice how they came back with the following lineup:

    +Shaq
    +Haslem
    +Posey
    +Wade
    +Payton/Williams

Hmm, but hey...god bless small ball. Right?

Since when did DeSagana Diop play small forward? I could have sworn it was him holding down Duncan at the end of game 7, but I don't know, you're the one with the carney glasses on.

Harris and then Terry were caught underneath on screens guarding Wade and the Mavs got sloppy with a moving screen (Dirk) and lazy pass (Terry).

Dallas didn't take out Dampier until the Heat took the lead with a minute remaining in the game. Hubie misread it because Damps was in there on the trip where Haslem stole it, was fouled and hit the FTs to put the Heat up by 1.

According to the play by play on ESPN, Dampier played the entire 4th until he was lifted for Harris with 1:02 to play. The Mavs had already surrendered their 11 point lead, and the game was tied.
