Studies have shown that since the advent of biodegradable disposables, the environmental impact between cloth and disposable is the practically the same, once the environmental costs of two washings (water, detergents) per load are added in.

However, cloth diapers remain the cheaper option, and new advances mean hard, leak proof s s that can be velcroed or snapped in place (no more pins poking kids or rash-inducing rubber covers). And of course cloth diapers can be reused for multiple children and later converted to cleaning cloths. But the convenience factor generally favors disposables.

Your thougts on this pressing issue?

(disclaimer - this is not a subtle sign that we are expecting a child, merely one piqued by numerous friends having kids and the costs between that eternally wages while deciding about whether or not to buy the house)
