Sure we complain DURING the game.... but so does everybody else.
We didn't complain about it after games to the media.... much less use blogs to criticize the league.
Every column I've picked up this morning up here in the east coast ridicules the Mavericks for being better complainers than finishers in the NBA finals. I wouldn't disagree with any of the comments I read. One went "Dallas is the Little Team That Could, But Won't Because Stern Won't Let Them." In many ways they have become the laughing stock of the NBA.
As I reflected on this consensus by NBA fans, I couldn't help but have visions of our top four players, TP, BB, MG, and TD also doing their share of complaining about calls. That I know of, there have never been any calls made that were later reversed because of some player ing about it.
If we can assume that Cuban, Avery, and others influenced the outcome of this series by blaming their woes on officiating and other off the court actions, should we also fear that constant ing by our Spurs will do the same for us? Do any of you see our Spurs also complaining too much? I've read here that, at least in some foreign countries, we are seen as being cry-babies.
Sure we complain DURING the game.... but so does everybody else.

True, though the league has started a new "Day Late, Dollar Short" program for rescinding technicals. There isn't a single player in the league that doesn't on the floor. But the Spurs players and organizations don't get fined hundreds of thousands of dollars in season because of running their mouths to the media. That and three championships will keep most intelligent folks from comparing the Mavs and Spurs any time soon.
I have watched a great deal of games played by the Spurs and the complaining about calls is way overblown. The Spurs players complain the least of any team in the league about calls. The reaction from the Spurs is incredulity that a call was made. Other playes from other teams almost throw a fit. I guess that the emotional reaction will help them get a makeup call. Sometimes I wish the Spurs would get that emotional so that they would get a makeup call.
Sorry people. It is the fans that complain the most. Absolutely!! When have you ever heard Pop or any of the players complain that the other team got all the calls? You just hear the Spurs say that they need to be more aggressive. I do remember the Spurs complaining that too many calls were made in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals between San Antonio and Dallas a few years back. That is about it.
At weast the Spuws have the les to bawk that up.
Hmm, didn't Gary Payton miss a pass because he was jawing with the Refs?!?
Seems to me, that's the only time I'd be pissed off a player was ing: if it literally screwed up a play.
shut up!! its a normal situation when a player complain a call, but spurs are not like this arrogant mavs who is always complaining on and off the court!! nothing is danger!
so back off!!!! spurs are humble team!!! the best team ever!!!!!
Honestly, I would like to see Duncan complain less. I think it takes away from a truly great individual and team player.
agreed, I dont think it is so much the players as it is the fans doing the complaining. Not so much the case with Dallas, unfortunatley Mark Cuban is a bad representation of one person complaining about officiating and bad calls. I have yet to see Pop or even Holt for that matter get on TV and about calls. I dont see Pop or Holt getting any fines for talking.
Just Duncan, he complains everytime he's called for a foul but who really cares anyway. I'd just think that as smart a player as he is that he'd realize that the refs will stop even listening to him if he doesn't agree with them every once in awhile. He didn't used to complain that much...just in last 2-3 years. I can't think of any other Spur player that complains more than any other NBA player. Mavs will always have bad rep as long as Cuban is around...he's an idiot.
i told u many times ur are jsut a toilet papers!!!!well' its good the heat trash u like a little peace of !!! hahhaha
spurs are the least comlainers in the nba...sure timmy complains during a game but not to the media...spurs got class...
Most of the players in the league (yes Mavs fan..."your" players do it too) complain and the superstars are the worst. Duncan is just as bad as Dirk or Kobe or anyone else. That is the one thing I don't like about the NBA. Getting upset during the heat of the game is one thing....whining about it afterward when you have had time to calm down is another. I was a big fan of Avery Johnson and although I didn't want him to ever beat the Spurs, I wanted success for him. Now I have lost some respect for him with the whining he has done this postseason. He didn't learn that whining from Popovich.
i agree
The mavs never understood the concept of winning with class, thats why it was a pleasure watching them lose !
Here's the difference between SA and Dallas:
Bruce Bowen is suspended for his kick to Ray Allen. He takes responsibility and nobody from the team complains about the suspension.
Mavs are suspended for:
- Jason Terry's punch to Finley's nuts
- Mbenga going into the crowd
- Stackhouse tackling O'Neal
and in every case it's whine, whine, whine, how unfair is this, the league is out to get us, and it's the players, the team, the fans, the owner, the local media, you name it who are ing. If you don't want to serve the time, don't commit the crime. And if you do something incredibly ing stupid, man up to it and take what's coming to you.
i know for sure, mavs loose the game bec they are stupid!!!
Arguing calls == delaying game ... Delaying the game allows yourself and team mates to try and relax a bit.
I thought the Mavericks did a good job in the series with the Spurs about just playing and not worrying about the officiating. That's obviously much easier to do, though, when you seem to be getting a fair (or a fairer) shake from the officials.
I have said here before that I thought this Spurs team struggled with its emotions and wasn't as good at refocusing after bad calls. A hallmark of the Spurs le teams in 1999 and 2003 was the ability to play through bad calls and using those calls to invoke a bunker mentality in those situations. Those teams were great about being able to just hang around through flurries of bad calls and do enough to give themselves a chance to win despite the calls. This year's team seemed to be much more fazed by those calls and I think, in the end, it hurt them at points. When they just shut up and played, they were awfully difficult to beat.
I too would like TD to complain less and let his game do the talking.
