Rumors: A New Marion to Chicago Deal? Another L.A. Team?

The Bulls and Suns are giving serious thought to a trade in which Suns forward Shawn Marion would be jettisoned to the Bulls for power forward Tyson Chandler and the Bulls' top draft pick, which is the second overall choice.

If Henry Samueli could persuade an NBA owner to move his team to the Arrowhead Pond and that owner wanted to identify his team with Los Angeles, Samueli would not stop him and the Anaheim City Council could not stop him. Samueli owns the Ducks, runs the Pond and wants an NBA franchise there, either through purchase or by persuading an NBA owner to move. Whether a team would want to use the Los Angeles label in a market where the Lakers and Clippers already do so is hypothetical. Samueli said he and his wife, Susan, had met with NBA Commissioner David Stern and asked whether the league would allow a third team in Southern California. "He said that's certainly a possibility," Samueli said. "He did not rule that out." Samueli has looked into the availability of the Portland Trail Blazers, Seattle SuperSonics and Sacramento Kings. Without reference to a specific team, he said he had no offer on the table for any team and "no serious discussions ongoing."

People have to understand something about Sarvar.

He's not likely to spend around 70 million for a roster.

He'd like to keep it around 65 million.

Therefore this trade of 9 million (Chandler) and 4 million (#2 pick) next year from the Bulls for Marion's 13.7 million doesn't change the fact that next year, when Diaw's and Barbosa's extensions kick in, the Suns will be threatening the 70 million total, if not easily exceeding it, considering they have another potential lottory pick from Atlanta in 2007.

If the Suns trade Marion, it'll be for good, inexpensive depth and picks.

A package of like Deng, Duhon, #2 and #16 for Marion and #21.

This way the Suns take back just 10 million, saving 6 million (factoring in picks values).

I don't see the Suns trading Marion unless there's a guarantee that Stoudemire gets back at 100%.

Marion may not be a protypical PF, but he still rebounds well and is still an asset in the up-tempo style of play that the Suns prefer.

I think that this is mostly idle speculation since Marion was somewhat disappointing in the Suns recent playoff run.

Suns won't make this deal. Boris Diaw has been a pleasant surprise, but he's no Shawn Marion and would be his natural replacement if such a trade goes through and Stoudemire resumes playing.

Marion would fit with those guys. The Bulls would more than likely keep him at the PF slot since he's a great rebounder despite playing out of position.

There's word that the Suns are interested in trading Barbosa to Philly for #13. This would save the Suns the potential extension, thus allowing Amare, Marion, Nash, Diaw, Bell and a host of picks to make up the core.

I think it's a mistake, but whatever. I guess they figure they can draft a player like Quincy Douby or Guillermo Diaz to replace him for cheap.

Still, I've held that Barbosa is one of the most talented players (factoring in age and inexperience) in the League. He'll never live up to the potential, but I do believe him to be a 18/20 point scorer who can notch a handful of rebounds and assists per game.

When his mid-range dhot is falling, he's unstoppable. No player can guard him off the dribble. Consistancy on that jumper will go a long way in terms of his development.

The Bulls were already playing Nocioni at power forward much of the time, and he can do pretty much everything Marion can at a fraction of the cost.

I'm not a Marion fan at all, but even if he's a lot better than I give him credit for this seems unlikely (unless the Bulls are going to draft a big man AND sign Ben Wallace to create a viable frontcourt).

Hey NBA Junkie, what's the deal with Kevin Garnett? They say he's staying but, I'm hearing something else.

I think an attempt will be made to acquire a player like Stephon Marbury or Allen Iverson as a last ditch attempt to appease Garnett, but with the junk on our roster being used as trade bait, I'll be genuinely shocked if something happens.

This much I know- Garnett loves Minnesota, but is frustrated with the team that he is surrounded with. Never once has he come out and publicy demanded a trade.

As I've stated in another thread, if Garnett is traded it has to be for younger talent like what the Bulls may be willing to dangle if they're interested in KG.

You must be speaking of Rashad McCants.

He really didn't get a chance to play until late in the season, but improved his three point shot as the season wore on and looks like he could be a 15-20 point scorer a night if he works at his game. He's easily the most athletic player on the Wolves roster. However, he looks lost on the defensive end of the floor. Reminds me somewhat of J.R Rider which is not necessarily a good thing.

Unfortunately, he just underwent the same type of microfracture knee surgery that shelved Amare Stoudemire for the 2005-06 season. The estimated timetable for such a return is 4-6 months, but could be much longer. I know Jason Kidd and Chris Webber had similiar injuries and neither were the same player post-surgery and rehab. However, McCants is younger and could heal sufficiently. We'll have to wait and see.
