I know this has been discussed before, but do any of you have any suggestions. I'd like to find one on I10 between vance jackson and 1604?

Looking to spend between 500 and 600 on a 1/1 with a den/study if possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/apa/174822170.html There's an example of some of the stuff in craigslist in our area - you get a lot more apartment for your money usually, and this one in particular has just been renovated with new appliances and everything. It's just north of downtown.

$500-$600? Dang, it really sucks being in Cali sometimes, rent here is 3-4 times that for a 1-bedroom.

I REALLY liked Stone Oak Place Apartments off of DeZavala and IH-10. Great location and I just like places right off the freeway. Traffic sucks at times, but in that area, you're pretty much screwed all around.

    http://www.moveforfree.com/apartment...Oak,Place.html

I'm sure there's a better link out there somewhere. I'd use an apartment locator even if you know what you want. Why pass up on free like a 25-50 dollar gift card for HEB and moving boxes?

Stone Oak is a decent complex. They have lower rentral rates because they are an older property. To be honest we would send a lot of our problems over there, half the time they would take them, half the time they wouldnt. By problems I mean mostly broken leases, if I recall they dont take any felonies, maybe DWI, but I cant recall, though I am positive they work with some crimes.

One that I really liked when I was in the business was the Turtle Creek Apartments. Washer/Dryer in every unit, spacious areas, was under new managment right when I got out. They were 'technically' being tough to approve, however they were low on occupancy so that could be why.

Another decent community is the Overlook over on Woodstone, again their tenants will depend on their occupancy rates, dont goto that dump on Woodstone just off 10, I forget the name now.

I looked at Overlook before StoneOak and liked them both equally. But I went with Stone Oak because it's close to Walmart, Krispy Kreme, and that bar in teh back of the bowling alley was cool to watch Spur games at considering it was literally a 2 minute walk away. I wanted that area pretty badly, but I didn't want to pay waaaay to much because apartments in that area (on Vance Jackson between Huebner and DeZavala to be more exact) are way overpriced at times. Stone Oak had some rough looking people when I first moved in, which I didn't get because I owed 100 bucks to Windsor Village and they made me pay up there first before I could move in. There was new management taking over when I moved out last summer though.

    Mandy,

Two years ago, before we got this house, we looked at a bunch of different complexes on Vance Jackson or right off of it.

I remember this one was very nice:
    Woods at Elm Creek
    11707 Vance Jackson Rd.
    San Antonio, TX 78230

But there's a ton of other places right around there. Just drive up Vance Jackson and you'll see a lot of them. They vary from plush with a lot of amenities to very simple. I'm not sure what you are looking for.

    Good luck.

On the North East side there is a complex called the Marquis at Castle Hills or something like that. It's probably worth a glance.

I looked at Turtle Creek a little over a year ago before I found the place I'm at now, and unless it has dramatically changed in the last year, I wouldn't recommend it. The place looked like it was falling apart when I was there - I didn't care if it had washer/dryer in unit. I was so grossed out by the outside I didn't even bother looking inside at the actual unit, but there's no way the maintenance was that great if the outside looked that awful.

I looked at the Overlook as well, and it was alright - granted that was about three years ago, but I got a decent impression from it. I've looked at so many damn apartments along I-10 in the last three years it's sad, and most of the ones I looked at were either new and overpriced or old and falling apart.

The place I stayed at Magic and Callaghan (used to be called Shallow Creek, now it's the Montage or something) was horrible, but it's under new management since I left, so it might have gotten better. While I lived there, my bathroom ceiling fell in three times, there was a termite infestation under my place, and a robbery directly above my unit (there were also three murders in the area in a two block radius within a couple months of my leaving though, so I wouldn't recommend the area).

Oh, I also have lived at De Zavala Oaks, and there's another complex right next to it (can't remember the name) - but I wouldn't recommend them unless you don't mind taking 5+ minutes to make a left turn from the complex to go towards I-10. There was also never any parking close to my unit at night, and there were so many students throwing parties at whatever day of the week (not a huge deal until you want to park your car) - the actual apartments were nice, and they had an alarm system, but they will felt pretty overpriced for the floor space, and the traffic was ing horrific.

Also Songbird Apartments on Callaghan are nice. They have some nice townhouses with their own garage. LJ and I almost rented there a couple years back.

The interior of the Turtle Creek units are pretty good, appliances are a bit old, but overall really good. They had told me they were going to work on the exerior in the next few months, this was when I was just getting ready to leave a couple months ago, so I dont know whats going on.

Overlook is alright, my sister will be living there starting next month sometime.

The Montage is still not that great.

I think there is also a waters at elm creek which is pretty good. One i believe is expensive, the other not as much. I cant recall anymore off the top of my head.

A place that is supposedly pretty good is Chapel Ridge, though I never actually went there because Lynd hated my broker, then again I also hated my broker, but thats a different story.

The Songbird is pretty nice, if I recall they are in a pretty wooded community off Callaghan, if thats the one I'm thinking of, then its really nice.

I know one that was doing a really, really good special when I was leaving was this complex off Orsinger Rd. They had some really nice lofts at the time. I never went out there personally, as that special had just really started and before that they werent worth my time from a commission standpoint, but if I recall they were looking real nice in teh pictures.

I have lived in both Songbird and Turtle Creek Vistas.

Songbird was nice, my roommate and I got a townhouse for a reasonable price. It had vaulted cielings which I loved and the kitchen was ginormous- plenty of cabinet and pantry space. The woods were right behind our place, and my roommate loved it, a lot of people put out deer corn. That to me though was a drawback- after working the night shift I would turn into the complex at like 1am and I swear I nearly hit a deer at least a dozen times. I drove a Geo at the time, so if I would have hit one of those deer, the deer would have won

Turtle Creek was nice, but this was like six years ago. The rooms and closet space were great if you have a lot of junk like I do. My only was the kitchen, it was tiny tiny and virtually no cabinet or counter space. Of course, I am a kitchen gadget so I have more stuff than most, so take this with a grain of salt. Oh, the access to I-10 was awesome, I think that was a definite bonus.

Man, since Mel brought it up I think I'll expand on it cause its a good ing point.

Pantry/Counter/Cabinet space is ing PREMIUM. You don't realize how much you misss all of that untill you don't have it. It is a compelte to have a small or non existant Pantry. It can't be understanded.

Thanks for the help guys, keep it coming!

The Songbird apartments look nice, from the pictures I've seen. But they don't have their prices or square footage listed so I'm gonna have to give them a call here in a second. Also the Waters at Elm Creek look awesome as well. Thank you for your suggestions!
