UT's Kenton Paulino got cut from the Sonics summer league squad today before summer league started (it starts in Utah tomorrow).

Does he suck?

He's a friend of my friend Noel Felix, who is also on Sonics summer team, so Noel is pretty bummed out about it.

He is not NBA worthy, I can understand that. He isn't that good of a handler, isn't that good of a defender, isn't too athletic. He was a good shooter/decent defender at the college level, and he WAS the only longhorn to increase in talent and contributions for 4 years in a row since god KNOWS who, but yeah, I never really saw him as NBA talent


Maybe if he had been highly recruited as a high school senior, had a par freshman season, then got worse in every facet of the game as a sophmore, THEN entered the draft he would have been drafted. But alas..

Supposedly he'll go to Europe now and cash in playing ball there.

Shooters can make good money with not much talent in some leagues over there.

He played high school ball with Noel's brother, so Noel was hoping Paulino would at least be able to go to summer league.

He is a good shooter, above average clutch rating too. Hope he succeeds there. I guess his Major in Leisure Management didn't open too many doors for him

He made that insane 3 in the tournament last year....thats a moment he will never forget to knock out West Virginia with no time on the clock

^ Agree with CBF. Paulino was a decent college player, but didn't ever see him as a legitimate NBA prospect. He was highly rated coming out of HS from Los Angeles and was a consistent peformer for the Horns. One thing that held him back in college was injuries, never let him develop the consistency he needed. He is a good shooter, solid outside stroke, but D is average at best and his handle is pretty weak.

Kenton Paulino (186-G-83) was the hot hand for Belize in the third quarter, sinking four 3-pointers. Unfortunately for Belize, Paulino had to leave the game after receiving an elbow below the chin from one of the Costa Rican players. The whiplash effect caused a fracture of the C3, C4 neck vertebrae. The loss of Paulino was really a momentum killer as Belize went on to lose the game.

At this time, we would like to express our sincere gra ude and appreciation to all the players who represented our country, especially to Kenton Paulino (186-G-83), who left earlier today for Austin, Texas to conduct further tests to assess the extent of the injury. Paulino was scheduled to go for his NBA trials next. We certainly wish him a speedy and healthy recovery.

That is why he was not on the Sonics team
