Gardner cut loose by Spurs

Former Missouri guard Thomas Gardner was cut from the summer-league roster of the San Antonio Spurs.
While that move didn’t end his dream of catching on as a free agent with the Spurs or some other NBA team, it may have boosted the possibility of Gardner playing in Europe next season instead.
“He has an offer from Pepinster, in Belgium,” Bill McCandless, Gardner’s agent, told The Star on Friday. “And, there are two teams in Greece that I talked to this morning.
“I’ve got a couple of other (NBA) teams interested in seeing him.”
And, McCandless added, the Spurs may not be entirely out of the picture.
McCandless indicated that it would be up to Gardner whether he wants to take decent money from Europe or wait and continue trying to catch on with an NBA team, perhaps in August.
Gardner, the Big 12 Conference’s second-leading scorer a year ago, entered the June 2006 NBA draft, passing up his final year of eligibility at MU.
He was hoping to be drafted but was not picked.

Gardner sucks, good riddance.
Gardner doesn't suck he's a good player and a good gye.I wish him the best.
Ball hogging shooting guards are a dime a dozen.
Gardner is an example of a lot of the futility this summer. Just look at the summer games. Sanders can barely make the Spurs roster and he is the star. There is no help coming from this group. If we get Butler then things will settle a bit. I still think there will be a trade eventually with Barry and Williams. A Barry for Najera trade still makes alot of sense for both teams. Of Butler, Elson and Oberto you can expect Oberto to start at center. It's not a talent issue. It's just the way Pop does things. It seems the group of big six have only two players of similar skills in Bonner and Horry as big three point shooters. Look for Horry to get very little playing time and might be traded to a playoff caliber team in the East as the trading deadline nears during the season.
Damn.
He was starting to grow on me.
It's weird that they cut him from the summer league team, but they are bringing him back for more workouts.
Gardner earns shot with Spurs, Suns
Former Missouri guard Thomas Gardner will have the opportunity to try out for both the San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns after receiving invitations to attend both teams’ minicamps yesterday. The dates for the camps have not been finalized, but both will be held in early August.
Gardner, who decided to forgo his senior season of eligibility but was not selected in June’s NBA draft, tried out for the Spurs’ summer-league team earlier this month but did not make the final roster for the Rocky Mountain Revue in Salt Lake City.
"It’s exciting to have another opportunity," Gardner said. "You go through those workouts looking for a chance to improve yourself and hopefully have a team notice you. My approach in San Antonio was to learn as much as possible. I wanted to showcase my abilities, but I learned not to just lean on my strengths as a player. I learned to focus on other aspects of the game. Working out with Bruce Bowen, I got a new perspective of the game. I learned how to read screens and how to see the floor on the defensive end. It also changed my work ethic. This is a business now. Knowing that changes the way you prepare. It changes the way you train. You spend more time in the gym with an opportunity like this in mind. I’m excited and thankful for these opportunities."
Gardner, the Big 12 Conference’s second-leading scorer last season, has also been offered a contract to play for Verviers-Pepinster of the Belgium League and could end up playing overseas if he is unable to catch on with an NBA franchise.

why didnt he return to MU to finish his course?
Cause that would require going to class and getting grades.
