Ian.
if you could only have one in a spur uniform who would it be?
who has the most upside?
Ever? or just this year... If it's this year, then Butler.
who has the most upside
who would you rather have this year
Ian, due to this athleticism.
Butler. He has an NBA ready body. He won't be pushed around, even if his game isn't mature. Ian would, at 230.
Butler is butter for me this year or any year! He's no saviour but he can play around the basket when teams slow down during the playoffs. If I were a phoenix fan I'd take Ian, but I think butler is better
I'd like to see both of them in a Spurs uniform for the next fifteen years.
For just this year.... Butler.... He's been tested on the NBA courts against real NBA players.
If I had to pick one and it be for the rest of either of their careers (and couldnt have both) I'd go with Ian. More upside in the long run IMHO.
You think the Spurs are still thinking of keeping Ian at PF or C if they sign Butler and Elson to their deals. They would have the position locked down. Maybe, the Spurs are thinking that Ian could play the 3 spot because his body is really more suited to that position 6' 11" 230 sounds more like a small forward to me. I know they may not count on Ian being an offensive dynamo at the position. Maybe they are thinking he could be the defensive long 3 they cannot get. It's just a thought...I know more than likely he is being groomed to play PF or C, but it would solve some problems if he covered our SF problems.
If you're waiting for Ian to develop a SF game of ballhandling and shooting, he's going to be in Europe for a LONG ing time. He's a PF right now, but with 20 more lbs. of muscle could be a combo PF/C.
Yeah, his game is close to the basket, and his body will develop to match the game. If he has really quick feet he might be able to fill in for a super big lineup at times, but I wouldn't count on any significant time at the small forward position from him.
I wanna say it would be a mistake to bring him at this point, but with the spurs needing big bodies he should get good amount of playing time..All of you who indicates to bring him in for practice, must have forgotten that during the season the teams rarley get in full practices due to such a crazy game schedule..If ian could play at least 10 minutes per game bring him over
Truthfully there is very little to go on with either player. A French league that's a step below the Euro League for one and 13 mpg in 58 career games for the other. I'd go Butler for both based solely on the level of comp.
If losing Butler would mean Ian comes over, I hope the Knicks match.
What? Are you hoping Lo Wright comes and takes you away from all of this?
Wow.![]()
At this point, I would take Butler.
Everything I've heard about Ian is less than assuring. Butler gives you quite a bit now, as well as potential you can develop...I would go with him.
While I think given consistent playing time and working with Tim and the staff that Ian would blossom and be great, I think at this point in time Butler is a better choice.
Either will blossom under the pressure of playing off the bench for a championship team. I thought Ian would need more time, but is doing fairly well in SL and the Spurs may actually need him this year.
i'd take butler cause his name is easier to say lol, ian need another year over seas, i don't think he's ready for 82 games plus the playoffs just yet. butler knows what it's like to play in the nba so he's more ready to help right now, hopefully he doesn't get matched cause i wanna see him playing next to duncan
Well, easily Butler now. It also means we'd get both.![]()
We will need them both. But we need Butler to play center and keep TD at PF. That is a necessity, and if it can happen then this coming season will look a lot better
