A lot of controversy over Big Ball vs Small Ball... I think that's missing the real issue.. the game is Basketball and a championship team has to be versatile and flexible enough to play both styles (and every variation in between) to be consistently successful. The Spurs demonstrated that 2 years ago when they won the championship and just got some bad breaks last season. The SPurs FO is looking for a balanced roster that will be able to respond to whatever the situation calls for. I think the player movements have been an improvement for the team. No superstars or dream players.. we never realistically were in the hunt for any "name" ballers.. I am giving all the new Spurs a blank sheet and will judge them from how they actually perform and conduct themselves henceforth.

Every team should be able to adjust to their opponents and use different formulas for different teams. Its not a case of big vs. small, but rather a case of 'when to adjust vs. when not to adjust', and when we do adjust, how much do we do it. Even in the 05 finals, Bowen never guarded Billups for whole games, he only did it at crunch time. Had he guarded Billups all game they would have had the chance to counter with their own adjustments. Over-adjusting can be just as bad as under-adjusting imo. Whether we did that in the finals is debatable, but I think we shouldnt be completely morphing our lineup if it turns out to have no real immediate success (against real comp at least, not some regular season games). It gave us an uphill battle as far as I could tell, even if it was "necessary".
