Now, if Denver matches the offer sheet.....the money offered to Elson is freed up again, but will the Spurs still go out and search or just settle?

If they go out and search....I believe Woods or Ariza would be good options. Long SF's, who are young, athletic, and have the potential to come off the bench and produce significantly.

Could they be afforded with the rest of the MLE?

    Looks possible.

Any chance we could get Ely, or would he just be matched?

Ely was an option, and he could be afforded at that price, I assume.

However, if they land Butler, I would hope the Spurs would try for a long young wing. They are really lacking youth at that position and it would be nice to have a young spark off the bench.

Gut feel, I think it will be easier to trade for a wing than another center. And even with Duncan, I don't love the idea of our center depth being Butler and Oberto.

Woods is a far better basketball player.

But, factoring in Woods's issues off the court and Ariza's incompetence on the court, there are still several options out there that should be looked at before scraping either of them off the bottom of the barrel.

Woods is unrestricted so he might be easier to sign.

Howevah, I don't want to see any more mutilated dog pictures in this forum, so I'd have to try for Ariza and hope Orlando decides to pick up Erik Daniels from summer league instead.

If they match Ariza, pick up Daniels. Simple.

I like Qyntel, I'd rather go after him than Ariza.

Ariza just seems really raw. Like he can do some stuff on a young team that doesn't know where it's going, but if you stick him in structured team with roles...he just wouln't fit in.

    Woods.

No risk, high reward. Can be had for a cheap one or two year contract fitting Spurs plans. Letting Stevenson go means Magic will likely retain Ariza. Besides which Woods is more talented.

Trevor Ariza's a stud with superstar potential. Makes the right decisions for a youngster. Plays hard. Rediculously athletic.

I don't know how anyone could say Woods is more talented or the better player. He's never done anything in his career and Ariza has already matched him in career stats.

Woods is already 25. Ariza turned 21 two weeks ago.

Woods is a headcase. Ariza is undisciplined.

Woods if we have to, Ariza if we can.

    And you think Woods can?

To be honest, I think both could fit in the system.

I think Woods would be a lot easier to have though...especially with NYC looking at Jeffries.

They're basically the same player, 6'8" ridiculously athletic, but Woods can shoot.
    Ariza 41 FG% 20 3G%
    Woods 45 FG% 36 3G%

Woods is also much more "available", being unrestricted.

Bonner, Williams, Vaughn, Butler, and Woods....would not be a bad off-season.

    2 expiring contracts.

1 cheap, experienced, and reliable back up point.

2 players who could bring youth and athleticism to the club.

It would be pretty sweet....let's see how the cards play out.

I doubt Ariza could be had for the LLE, but what about Woods or Jones? Is their price going to be much higher than that?

I think the Spurs would pretty much need to offer the remaining MLE to attract a young SF.....unless it's Melzer, which I would be cool with....the Spurs seem to be really high on him, and he seems to be doing well in SL.
