Hey guys, hopefully one of you can help me out yet again...

My Dell desktop isn't recognizing any DVD-Rs that I put into the DVD burner drive. Basically I can put any DVD-R in and nothing pops up. To top it off when I go to Nero to burn a DVD it says please insert a DVD... and when I put one in it doesn't read it or something... However the same drive is recognizing CD-Rs...

    any ideas?

^Yeah and it burns fine on my laptop... But isn't it odd that the CD-Rs are fine but the DVD-Rs aren't?

either ur dvdrs are not compatible with the burner, vice versa

if you had exp with the dvdrs already with the burner, it could be the burner, update teh drivers.

Some versions of Nero have to be set to either CD or DVD when you open them.

    Otherwise try some other program.

    Thanks guys.
I wasn't able to find any drivers... The model number is HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B...
As for another DVD-R brand, I did try that and it wasn't read either... Funny thing is that I've burnt DVDs successfully and its not working all of a sudden...

look for the new firmware on dell's customer support site, they should have it there. Looks like a common problem.

Funny thing is that I've burnt DVDs successfully and its not working all of a sudden...

Then do a system restore to the date it was working fine.

Or download this and tell me if it works.

Does your dvd player read commercial DVDs or DVD+R? If it does, it's probably a software/driver issue, but if it doesn't, your DVD-R is toast. Time to hit newegg
