Jumaine Jones or Qyntel Woods would be very nice at this point. But yeah, next step is for the Nuggets to match so the Spurs don't waste more than half of their MLE on a player who deserves LLE money at most.

Murphy's contact is not very good. He doesn't seem to be defensively adept either.

Can someone find Timvp's center free agent breakdown from early in the offseason. You know, the one where he highlights Butler.

    You still need Elson.

Butler gives you certain things offensively, but he's not a physical presence in the paint like Elson is. Having both gives you options to work with, just having one leaves you with some glaring holes in the middle.

If Elson is matched, there are still guys like Lo Wright or Kelvin Cato out there who cold be able to act as placeholders at center until Butler hopefully develops.

Id rather sign Pollard than Kelvin Cato.

    Cato is plain worthless.

It's hard to tell with Cato. He got zero meaningful minutes last season on a completely stacked team.

He could be completely done, but if he can still play like he did in Houston, he's > Pollard.

He would have to be worked out.

Cato's a journey-man big who was stuck on the bench last year.

Elson is a relatively young big who despite being on a team with bigger name guys, still found his way on the court in important minutes. Cato used to be real nice, I just don't know if he has it anymore...I'd go with what you know you're getting in Elson.

Elson is fine as long as his recent playoff numbers never ever happen again. Ever.

I like the addition of Elson as long as he produces better numbers than the crappy numbers he has had during his entire career and for that matter as long as he plays way better than he is capable of playing which isn't saying much.......wait a second uhhhh

This morning's Rocky Mountain News speculates that the Nuggets are somewhat more likely to match the Spurs' offer:

    http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drm...857309,00.html

    ...

Today also is the deadline for the Nuggets to match a two-year, $6 million offer sheet restricted free-agent center Francisco Elson has signed with San Antonio. And director of player personnel Mark Warkentien anticipates Nene will sign today.

"The lawyers are doing a very good job and the end is in sight," Warkentien said of the restricted free agent who agreed July 2 to a six-year, $60 million contract.

Warkentien said no decision has been made on Elson. There have been indications the Nuggets have become more prone to match because of [J. R.] Smith's economical contract.

"I love what Francisco brings, but it's a business," said Karl, who last week said it was unlikely Elson would return. "We're evaluating our options. It's 50-50."

With the deadline at midnight, Elson's agent, Calvin Andrews, doesn't expect to learn his client's fate until "the eleventh hour."

Instead of keeping Elson, the Nuggets could re-sign forward Reggie Evans, who wouldn't say when asked if he wants to return. Or they could look at an outside free agent big man, such as Keith Van Horn.

    ...
