Francisco Marihno Robby Elson (born February 28, 1976 in Rotterdam, Netherlands) is a professional basketball player in the NBA of African-Dutch nationality. He is 7' 0" (2.13 m) and weighs 235 lbs (107 kg).
Elson was drafted in the second round of the 1999 NBA Draft from Cal by the Denver Nuggets, but didn't commence play with them until the 2003-04 campaign. Over his first two seasons, he averaged 3.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. In 2005-06, his third season with the Nuggets, Elson played in 72 games, starting in 54 games. He averaged 21.9 minutes, 4.9 points (on 53.2% shooting) and 4.7 rebounds per game.
In July 2006 Elson signed a 2-year US$6 million contract with the San Antonio Spurs.
Elson maintains an off-season home in Amsterdam.
Elson caused controversy in April, 2004, when after a playoff game against the Minnesota Timberwolves in which he was accidentally hit in the groin by opposing player Kevin Garnett, described Garnett as "gay". He was quoted as saying: "That's a cheap shot by a low-class type player. You don't do that. That's gay on his part. I told him that he was gay, too, for touching me in my private parts." He later apologized for his comments.
-thats from wikipedia.org
Now Tim and Elson can go calling people gay and re ed. Oh boy.
Ray (San Antonio, TX): Give me a Spurs question Marc, please! No Scola, Oberto not looking great, no real offensive pickups in the offseason! What are my Spurs doing? It looks like Dallas and Pheonix are moving forward and the Spurs are running in place. Any chance we can convince Duncan to play the 5 and pick up another strong 4 (or bring Scola in)? They don't look like an elite team to me next year with this bench.
Marc Stein: (1:42 PM ET ) What? I thought the Spurs had a quietly HUGE week last week. I'd much rather have Elson and Butler splitting $5 mil than Mohammed. I'm betting on the Spurs to make a player out of one of them at the least.
Have the Spurs heard from Eric Williams, S&BR? Is it looking like they will ever assign him Spurs' gear?
When he demonstrates that he CAN rebound the basketball.
I pray that it's the end of time before he ever sig....
