I think the fact that we haven't really lost significant players from last year, i thought that Hedo was garbage, should prevent the annual slow start refered to in the TP thread.

Last year we had no Duncan, no Parker, No Robinson, and No SJax at the beginning of the season and really never had much of an offense until well into the regular season. The development of the motion o in january is what started us on our annual upswing. This year i think we shouldnt need a slow start as the team is more or less than same isnt it, minus a few chocking turks, and plus a talented shooter.

    Thoughts......?

Spurs won't start out too slow, but it will still take them some time to build up momentum. My unofficial predection is a 14-6 start.

Even with the two losses the team appears to be further along in their understanding of the system and execution than in years past. They still have given up some easy baskets but that will get better as they get in better shape and and get their legs. Brent is going to be a huge weapon and I think Devin and Malik are going to take some minutes from Bruce and Rasho. They will be better from the start but will they have the stamina of the past? Fun year ahead and I hope they get it going very early.

I dunno, y'all. Timvp has a pretty good prediction track record if I recall correctly.

TimVP was excellent last season with his predictions...but if you think about it he actually underestimated how good the Spurs were...

IIRC his 10-10 prediction was based on relatively good health...but the Spurs were missing Parker and Duncan for most of that stretch we went 10-10...

SA's record last year is pretty amazing when you consider that we were replacing the man our defense was built around...and we had one of the more injury plagued seasons we have had in the past decade.

I imagine with health the Spurs would have been good for around 62 wins last season...that's with replacing Drob. I don't think it would have changed our post season fate, because our iffy 3 point shooting was going to remain iffy with health or without.

I had a feeling our 3 shooting was going to get us eventually...all season long...we didn't have enough guys with that skill and the guys who did have that skill were unproven or on the decline. I ed, whined, and complained about our perimter game for the entire season last year, for those reasons.

This seasons team is a machine with no holes..and it's got more continuity than any Spur team in a decade. A big question remains on how Barry will do in the post season...but we have enough options to where it should not be easy to double Duncan or Parker even if our 3 shooting is tanking. I didn't know Hedo was going to suck...but I knew we didn't have enough proven perimeter threats backing up Parker and Manu's inconsistent shooting. This year we do. That's the difference.

Aint no one going to leave Barry open...I don't care if he is struggling or not. That's the difference between he and Hedo.

With health, this team should set the all time mark for regular season wins by a Spurs team. On paper it should IMO.

I'd still expect a slow start, just because Popovich doesn't seem to have much interest in putting everything in during camp. Regardless of the start, it's the finish that matters. If they were able to go from 9-10 to 57-25 (finishing 48-15), with the injury problems they faced last season, the league should be a bit concerned if the Spurs get out to anything resembling a good start. Just remember, a 12-8 start in 2002-03 resulted in an NBA-best 60-22 record (finishing 48-14, and even giving away the last game of the regular season), home court throughout the playoffs, and a second gold ball.

RtD, that's a great scenario, but don't you think they'll lose more than one road game?

I thought it would be interesting to re-visit some of our early season predicitons, and look how wrong we all were.

I'm sure no one predicted we would lose to Toronto or Memphis either.

I often wonder about the purpose of predicting scores or game by game w-l...is it to illustrate your knowledge of the game...or to prove you are Miss Cleo?

The reason I never make those types of predictions is because I would be guessing...even if I was right it would be due to luck more than anything else...

I mean you just never know when someone is going to get injured or be sick or the refs are going to put them in foul trouble, and the same goes for other teams...there's just so many variables that are impossible to see, that totally alter the matchups in the game, etc. I mean there are some games that are no-brainers...but predicting 20 specific outcomes in a row requires Nostradamus like clairvoyance.
