At last, a poll with prudent realism.
I'd like to see some idiot actually come on here & post that the coaches of all people have it all wrong.

...compared to my top 10...not bad, imo.
1. Ohio State
2. USC
3. Florida
4. Miami
5. Auburn
6. LSU
7. West Virginia
8. Oklahoma
9. t.u.
10. California
only problem i have with coaches poll, and i am sure you already know this, is t.u. and notre dame being that high. it's crazy...and mark my words notre dame 2-2 after first four. if they are 3-1 then i will give them props, 4-0 would never ever happen.
Might want to do your homework next time & think with your head & not with your heart.
...please. there is no way t.u. should be that high; interested to see what the AP reports.
Texas is definately top 5....not number 2, but top 5 with their returning starters at wideout and rb's...not to mention their defense will be bad ass yet again. However, I'm not sold on hanging their fate on either freshman QB...In my opinion, Texas either finishes up in the bottom half of the top 10 or just on the outside.
Finally!
A honest & realistic opinion spoken with thought from the head & not the ass.
I'll bet scalpers are doing backflips over seeing tOSU and Texas being 1 & 2.
No doubt.
I think I can say goodbye to apprx $400-$500 now for a 5-10 yard line seat.
I have reserved a seat on my couch for the game.
Texas and USC will both lose at least 2 games. Neither should be in the top 3 teams.
I think UT should be around 6-8, USC around 8-10, and now that we've been Bomar'ed OU should be around 15-20.
And who the gave a vote to Duke?
Based on what? Nothing. You know just as little as any of the other Coaches/Pollsters at this point. So do I. So does anybody here.
The top teams play eachother so much this year, that it will all sort itself out on the field. There's hardly any point in preseason speculation.
Preseason polls are meaningless.
(except in the very rare case of an Auburn04, where the preseason order held to the last week)
Most realistic post.
...the polls are meaningless, except if you want to win the national le. you pretty much have to be in the top 10 to win it....going from top 15 into the top two seeds is pretty much impossible nowadays. so it does matter....and having t.u. two is stupid; no qb's with any experience...not one snap. and while i don't have a huge problem with the coaches poll i will be looking forward to the AP poll, which is the grandaddy anyway.
If ut strictly changes to a stron run only offense, then i can see them in the top 5.
But if this is a rebuilding year with them experimenting with their Qbs, i don't think they will have a BCS berth.
Interesting,
Although for Notre dame to drop out of the Top ten, they basically have to lose 4 games.
True as . They'll make a bowl they aren't good enough to be in, and get stomped like every year.
They will definitely be heavy run. I don't think it'll be 80 percent run or anything, but that will be the focus of the offense, at least early in the season. They will probably toy with the passing game a lot against North Texas, assuming it's not a game anymore after the first half.
UT the past few yrs has always tried to assert the running game vs their early cupcakes. UT keeps the play calling pretty vanilla til their tougher comp.
I'd say UT finishes the season @ close to 60% run vs 40% pass.
UT will win the Big 12 South & that means the Big 12 as well which guarantees a BCS bid.
You better believe they won't worry about asserting it against NT this year. Those QB's need some experience in a game, making throws. Early on, yes they will run, but in the second half there will be some passing. I hope for something like 60-40, but expect more of a 70 percent run.
Last year, they ran 605 times and passed 336 times. Someone else can do the math, but that is pretty heavy run. Granted the QB won't presumably run as much this year, unless Sherrod Harris somehow wins the QB battle. I wish Chiles were already on the team, or I'd be rooting for him.
