Terry Porter, whose involvement in the pursuit of buying the Portland Trail Blazers ended last week, is expected to be named a Detroit Pistons assistant coach as early as today.

Porter, who played three seasons (1995-1998) in Minnesota for current Pistons head coach Flip Saunders, was part of a group of investors interested in purchasing the Trail Blazers. That was before Portland owner Paul Allen announced last week that he was no longer trying to sell the team.

Porter would fill the void left by the departure of Sidney Lowe, the former assistant who became the head coach at his alma mater, North Carolina State University after last season.

Porter played 17 years in the NBA and also was the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks from 2003-2005.

In his first season, he led Milwaukee to the playoffs, where they were eliminated in the first round by the Pistons. However, during Porter's second season, the Bucks got off to a disastrous start and missed the playoffs.

Porter was fired shortly after the Bucks acquired the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft, which they used to select Andrew Bogut.

Yeah if Flip is doing a bad job by midseason the Pistons have a strong guy to replace him. He can arguably even be better.

Only reason Stotts got the job was because he was friends with the GM.
