I really hate it when I follow all the rules and circle around the parking lot at HEB and pull up to my parking space, with my blinker on and then some comes from the wrong way and pulls in the space right in front of me.

Word. That's almost as bad as the dumb es who will hold up the entire flow of traffic in the lot because they see some little old lady just getting to her car. Then everyone is stuck behind them for five minutes while this poor old lady is feeling rushed to load up her groceries because some asshole is waiting on them.

Oh, and people who leave their carts out in the lot. Hate them too. What is about parking lots that make people such assholes sometimes?

To add, not to pick on women drivers, but I hate when they have their rear view mirror pointed directly to their face. If you're that ugly to continue to have to reapply makeup throughout rush hour, you should just stay home.

Oh, me too. I get so ing pissed off (as SFIE will tell you) when people pull that .

I get more annoyed though, when people hold up traffic waiting for someone to leave - not just pull out, but load up all their groceries, walk their cart back, settle their kids in, search their purse for their wallet or cell phone, get in, make a phone call, and THEN leave. The people who follow folks to their car and wait are assholes.

I make it a point to take my cart to the designated area.

But when I see some dumb that thinks his brand new F-150 deserves to take up 4 parking slots by parking completely out of whack so he doesn't get doored...... He deserves every cart I put around his piece of surrounding it, so he can be paranoid about getting a ding.

When I "feel" someone "spot stalking" me, I usually walk past my car, pause then walk back to it, by then they can't reverse.

You wouldn't like Cali drivers then. Everyone cuts corners. My pet peeve is that no one signals out here. It is ing irritating.

But one positive is that everyone in Cali drives fast except on the 405 which is gridlock everyday, all day.

You had your blinker on through the whole parking lot?
No, I put my blinker on about halfway down the aisle to signal to anyone approaching I was pulling into the only available slot, that one. It was a one way lane. It was the end slot and I was already turning my wheels to pull in when she came out of nowhere going the wrong way and shot right in front of me. I had to slam on my brakes to keep from hitting her with my car.

What I hate a little more than what 2Blonde was saying is when two assholes are sitting there at a standoff for said parking space, and in the process blocking traffic from coming through and taking a space that is like two spots away from them. I inevitably end up behind one of the standoffers, then someone comes behind me and blocks me from reversing out of the whole mess, then honks at me as if I am the source of the problem.

If people would just park their car in a convenient spot and not worry about getting THE CLOSEST FRIGGING POSSIBLE PARKING SPACE this would not be a problem. Walking a hundred more feet isn't going to kill anyone.

No, I don't pull in front of people who "reserve" parking spots in this way but it always amuses me to park 10 or 12 spots further down the aisle and beat them into the store because they are still sitting there waiting for Gramma to finish.

But I might as well wish lazy assholes who leave their carts all over the lot would put them back, because it's never going to happen.

I just cussed her out with my windows rolled safely up and gave her dirty looks as I drove out to Siberia to park. Then I watched her get out of her car and saw she had some kind of pump attached to herself. She was probably waiting for a heart/lung or a brain transplant or something like that. I felt really bad for about two seconds and then thought "That's still no reason to be a parking space stealing !!!"

You shouldn't always rush to judgment about why someone wants the closest parking space. In my case it was a handicapped spot and I needed it just as much as she did. Not that it matters to you. I didn't include that in the original story because it was irrelevant, but since you think I was just trying to get the closest spot "for the of it", I thought I would explain.

I don't put carts back where they belong.

I do at least make sure they aren't going to roll downhill into someone's paint job.

The reason I DON'T return them is because one of my old high school friends was a former grocery bagger. He told me that collecting the carts was his favorite part of the shift. Makes sense...collecting carts on a beautiful day >>>> double bagging some old lady's groceries with her staring at you....

So, I don't return the carts so that the kids bagging gorceries can have some "down time" rounding up carts. Well, that and laziness.

There are VERY few beautiful days in South Texas. As a former HEB employee I can say that cart duty was the least-fun part of being a bagger, especially in the summer.

[in regular parking spaces] 9 times out of 10 it's strictly convenience as the people who come out of their cars more often than not appear hale and hearty. If those who were healthy wouldn't try so danged hard to minimize their walks by a few steps there would indeed be spaces closer for those who need them.

I knew I should have put in a disclaimer about handicapped spots, b/c an even bigger pet peeve of mine are jerks who park in them who don't belong there. No license plate, no permit, just pull in and saunter in. "Oh, I'm just going to be a minute" or BS like that. Since you didn't mention that minor detail there was no way to know that's what you were talking about - apologies.

i can vouch for cart duty.

I'd gladly help round them up when I was working at Target. Would take a good 30 min to an hour to get them all.

We had a good time doing it, even in the summer.

I hated cart duty, so did most of my fellow baggers at HEB. The only ones who liked them were the teenage guys, cus they would use it as an opportunity to flirt with the hot customers as they got in and out of their cars.

That's pretty much the way my friend described it. It was basically "break time" while you were still on the clock. They'd go out into the parking lot and around for about 45 minutes while slowly picking up the carts. And if one of the guys had brought their stash to work, they'd hurry up with the carts and spend a few minutes in one of their cars getting high before going back to work.
