Anyone heard anything about getting preparations started this season? Mid September, it seems like there should be some training camp news or something. First pre-season game isn't far off. Any new players in town working out? I've heard all the speculation on who should be good or a bust, and if we've improved or not but it seems it's time for some actual news. Anyone?

Training camp starts in France Oct. 4th or thereabouts.

The Spurs have 5 new players under contract plus 2 or 3 signed to make-good contracts (training camp players).

These 5 new players are 1 starting Center, 1 2nd string Center, and 3 3rd stringers (1 Big, 1 Wing, and 1 PG). These are more vernier adjustments, keeping 9 or 10 core players from last year.

These are moves made, supposedly, to keep the core they have and replace slower, less mobile players Pop didn't feel inclined to use in the playoffs. 1) a quicker, faster (cough*cheaper*) Big, 2) a Big with better scoring, bulk and upside (cough*cheaper*), and a more defensive-minded, veteran PG.

They replaced a 3rd string, no D Kiwi with a 3rd string 3-point specialist, almost no D guy who likes to walk to work.

In conclusion, I'll take a boring summer and a healthy Tim Duncan over a 60-70% Tim Duncan and any other kind of summer.

This is an interesting subplot. Do you think he bought a car? Or is he taking VIA to the arena and practice facility?

One additional bit of info....the Spurs depart for France on Sept. 29, according to Johnny Ludden and they will stay in Lyon for 5 days before moving on to Paris. Therefore, training camp starts around Oct. 1.
