Why the is he smiling when he's talking about "them coming to kill your family"? Look at his face...it's practically beaming with happy bemusement.
If you want to see the beauty of body language at work, watch this interview. First, Bush is all over Matt Lauer -- check out the pointing and the aggressiveness. Then, when it's clear that Lauer's not buying it, he starts saying that he won't talk about what he's already been talking about.

Looks like even Dubya is having trouble believing that one, but people do some crazy when their scared, like vote Repubican.

Because the Repugs have lied profusely and repeatedly about so miuch in 5 years, "some" have been asking, while not trying to minimize or disregard terrrorism which nobody seriously denies, whether the absence of attacks in USA in 5 years is due to defense, OR because the attacks, which even OBL says are extremely hard to carry out in USA, are being over-exagerrated by the Repugs to scare everybody and claim credit for a situation that really doesn't exist.
The Repugs were on guard duty when OBL hit the WTC. That should be enough to impeach dubya/ head/condi/head of FAA/etc for derelicton of duty and incompetence.
"nobody could have stopped the WTC attack" is the spin the Repugs put out to cover their lying, venal, murderous asses.

I guess this is eye of the beholder material; I don't see Bush as pwned in this at all. He stayed on message which was:
1. When we capture a potential intelligence asset on the battlefield, that person is the single greatest opportunity we have at gathering real information about what the enemy might be planning.
2. We interrogate that person w/in the confines of the law (the DOJ's lawyers have defined the limits for the WH)
3. We will not discuss ANY specific techniques (and he didn't), because we don't want the enemy to be able to train their agents to tolerate those techniques.
Perfectly logical/reasonable explanations given by the President, IMO.
Bush also claimed that REAL information had been obtained using the process, and that actual attacks have been foiled.
I think y'all are just so blinded by your hatred for Bush and his mannerisms that you can't see beyond that.

... which is not the same as useful. Many military people say coerced info is not only often of little accuracy but purposely incorrect.

People who have a strong spiritual orientation like many Muslim jihadists/suicidal fighters can have the same mental strength to resist torture as Christians think captives Christians would have.

Granted, but Bush states that usefull information has, in fact, been gained. I'm sure some DOJ's would have problems with whatever THIS one has approved, but take the president at his word that what we have done is within the law as defined right now. If not, the new Congress, I am sure, will investigate it.
I have consistently cringed just about any time I have seen Bush speak since '99. He is not a good, clear, voice for the conservative point of view, and makes those of us who subscribe to it easy targets of criticism. It doesn't change the fact, however, that in our system, I have been left with the choice of a leader who has consistently demostrated very poor communication skills, that often make him appear, frankly, incompetent, and his opponents, whom I either simply completely disagree with politically, or I can't trust anything they have said because their opinions seem governed by the popular views of the moment.
