matt is on sports 1140 khtk right now and he said the warriors are interested in him along with the spurs and suns. He also said he hopes he stays in the west because bad things (getting cut) always happen to him when hes in the East. if you dont know anything about him hes a small forward who is really good at rebounding the basketball, he said he wishes he could be a king but they arent one of the teams who want him. what do you guys think?

The Spurs are always interested in him.

Two or three previous summers he's come here and worked out for the team, but cir stances have always landed him elsewhere.

I'd like him here, but I am sure he wants some actual playing time.

I would love to have him here. I don't know if he would actually get a chance to contribute, but if he did, I'm sure he could make an impact.

I like Matt, I've liked him since he was with the Clippers. He'd be a good pick-up.

What about that rookie who did so well for the Knicks last season? David Lee.
    Is he signed?
I really liked his hustle and shooting when Larry gave him some PT.

Lee was a 1st round pick. He's committed to the Knicks and they have Team Options on him the next 2 years.

I'd rather see the Spurs first go after unrestricted FA and former NY Knick SF Qyntel Woods. If not, Barnes would do fine given some PT.

Seriously, didn't that guy shoot his dog or something random like that?

I don't post here often, but am a HUGE fan of the team and visit this site on a daily basis. One thing I love about the Spurs is their committment to winning and keeping a fan-friendly environment. This means compiling talented players who have the capacity and will to win games and satisfy the crowd as well as act like civilized people (and even go above and beyond that; see: Bowen, Robinson, etc...). I agree that Woods has talent. I disagree with the opinion that he would fit in well with the current squad that is currently on the payroll.

I didn't respond to the posting about Derek Anderson for the same reason. Yes, he has lots of talent and could potentially contribute to a winning team, but he had his chance and chose, instead, to be selfish. The Spurs are a franchise that realize they have to spend little to make a profit, and in doing so they have to be smart. Signing a guy like Woods or DA (or even Stephen Jackson) is questionable because while talented, they don't accomphish the two criterea it takes to be a Spur -- a winning mentality AND heart. (Yes, I know Jack was a huge part in the '03 ring, but would you want him or Manu?)

There are a lot of talented players who have the capacity to win ball games. I love the Spurs because they don't go for players who meet just that criterea. They go for the ones that win on and off the court (or at least try; see: Loyd Daniels).

Matt Barnes brings hustle and rebounding for scrap change. He can provide a few useful minutes here and there. Definitely worth getting if you have an extra roster spot

If Eric Williams has still something left in the tank, he will be way better than Barnes. Barnes can be quite usefull (as AI-square said) if Williams is done or if Spurs planed to trade/buyout Williams to go under the luxury tax threshold.

Another thing to notice is that Warriors are interested in him, reports said that they were interested too in Dermarr Johnson. If Warriors waive Brown and sign Johnson/Barnes to a min contract, they will save something like $5M : I really think that they will waive Devin Brown.
Even if Devin isn't exactly a long SF, it will be fun to have him back.

Q fought dogs. He was also like 19-20 when he did this, and has never had anything else truly bad on his record.

Edit: forget it. He wears the SACRED #6.

you couldn't be more wrong! He was 23 and even abandoned a dog because it wouldn't fight for him, nice guy. Spurs material!

It is not the first time the 23-year-old Woods has been in trouble. He has previously been cited on marijuana possession charges and for driving with a suspended license.
