If anyone is looking to get into a really cool and different type of league, check out g-hoops.com. They still have team spots open for the first season. It's a year round league and it seems like it will be something much more organized than any of the other leagues i've played in town.

I called the contact number this afternoon.

They have 7 teams now with 7 - 10 players.

They will have 2 trained referees per game.

They are holding up starting their first games until they get 12 teams. They hope to start playing in Oct or Nov

They have no intention of anything but amateurism, getting some exercise, and having basketball fun but in the spirit of formal teams with uniforms.

I look forward to seeing the games and how it works out. If 2-million-people SA can't provide the less than 100 players to get the league going, it will be pretty sad.

One thing I didn't understand was this ...

    What is G-Hoops?
G-Hoops is a 5 on 5 year round Basketball League open to anyone over the age of 18 who wants to play compe ive basketball in a fun and professional environment.

    Why is G-Hoops different?
G-Hoops is different than other leagues because G-Hoops runs all year round. Most city leagues run for a few weeks and then you must wait until the next league starts the following year. Also, G-Hoops prides itself on giving players the feeling of playing in a Professional League. We achieve this by requiring the players to wear top of the line uniforms and by keeping track of statistics. Teams will also be competing for the coveted G-Hoops Championship Trophies.

How much does it cost to play with G-Hoops?
If you are an individual who wants to play it costs $75 to register for an 8 week season plus the uniform fee. If you are a team (min 5 players, max 10), the registration fee is $500 plus uniform fees for each team member.
So it runs year run but seasons are only 8-weeks? $500 plus uniforms is a lot for a team for an 8-week season.

The uniform fee is a 1 time fee. And if you compare it to other leagues it's pretty reasonable...especially since you're getting a jersey and shorts, stats, 2 refs per game...it seems like you are getting what you pay for. I know i'm excited to see what it's all about. It sounds like something different and built around basketball lovers.

$500 per team is still a lot. A lot of people here play in the city leagues in the summer which I think are 10 weeks and it's less money than that.

You didn't have to start a second user name just to prop your league.

City league is pretty damn organized. This one is probably good too. I'm just saying that it's more expensive and less weeks than city league.

And btw I didn't start a second user name. But you are close.

Well if not you, someone using your computer or in your house.

Anyway, it seems like a decent league. But don't advertise it like a bargain because it isn't.

I'm sorry it is expensive. How much is the "one" time fee and do you keep the uni's? In the city leagues you just buy your own uni's and its organized with score keepers and two refs.

The city charges 345 per team, plus 10 per player for 10 games and sometimes playoffs. In a team with 10 thats only 45 for 10 games.

Their uniforms are $40 each if you play in the first 8 week season, but will go up to $65 each if you don't sign up til one of the later seasons. You keep the uniforms though but that's still pretty expensive. I think you can get customized jerseys for like $20 on your own.

You are right, it's no different than playing in city league really, other than being a tad more expensive. This one is $500 per team plus uniforms, city league is $445 per team plus uniforms (if you have 10 players). Both have officials, scoring, etc.

I think they have a winter league that starts in November (registration in October) but I'm not sure, you'd have to call.

I was thinking the same thing. I could care less if I'm wearing a uni or if the game is regulated. 5 bills is a lot for 8 games, too much to play a game that I can go play at the local park for free.
