Any suggestions on a good DVD Recorder/VCR combo? What brand is the best? Also I want them to get finalized so they can be used on other DVD players.

We have the Sony DVR Recorder and like it. It's pretty easy to use once you familiarize yourself with it and read the manual and makes good copies. It also allows you to make chapters and les and finalize the DVDs. It doesn't have a built-in tape deck, but you can connect a VCR to the front or back. We record a lot of things straight off the digital cable box, too.

i don't really see the point in getting one, you can get a dual layer burner that burns at 16X for your computer for around $50. if you have the right video card of a camcorder you can always record old VHS directly to the computer or onto the camcorder then transfer it.
