There Are 3 Different Pumps To Fill A Pool
The First One Takes 30 Hours To Fill The Pool
The Second One Takes 40 Hours To Fill The Pool
And The Third Pump Takes 5 Days To Fill The Pool...
OK.. Now If You Combined The 3 Pumps To Pump Water Together, How Long Would It Take To Fill The Pool
Anybody??
"You surprise me again, McLean..."
this is a guess...
x/30 + x/40 +x/120 = 1
8x/120 = 1
x=15hrs.
why do i not believe that zak figured it out himself
is that another riddle?
the answer and math is correct... but it probably makes more sense written in the following manner:
Time * Rate = Volume
30 (hrs) * a (gal/hr) = y (gal: the full volume of pool)
Equation 1: 30*a = y
Equation 2: 40*b = y
Equation 3: 120*c = y
It then follows that:
(30*a) = (40*b) = (120*c) = y
And again since:
Time * Rate = Volume
Time(combined) * (Combined Rate of all three pumps) = Volume
Put all rates in terms of one of the others:
a = a
b = 30*a/40
c = 30*a/120
y = 30*a
Time(combined) * (a + (30*a/40) + (30*a/120)) = 30*a
Time(combined) * (2*a) = 30*a
Time(combined) = 30*a *(1/(2*a))
Time(combined) = 15 (hrs)

Yikes!Time * Rate = Volume
30 (hrs) * a (gal/hr) = y (gal: the full volume of pool)
Equation 1: 30*a = y
Equation 2: 40*b = y
Equation 3: 120*c = y
It then follows that:
(30*a) = (40*b) = (120*c) = y
And again since:
Time * Rate = Volume
Time(combined) * (Combined Rate of all three pumps) = Volume
Put all rates in terms of one of the others:
a = a
b = 30*a/40
c = 30*a/120
y = 30*a
Time(combined) * (a + (30*a/40) + (30*a/120)) = 30*a
Time(combined) * (2*a) = 30*a
Time(combined) = 30*a *(1/(2*a))
Time(combined) = 15 (hrs)
Here's my work...
30/30 + 30/40 + 30/120 = 60/30 = 2/1
30 hrs / 2 = 15 hrs
Is somebody going to point out that this is not a riddle?
I'm still waiting for the "Why wouldn't everyone rent their movies from Netflix?" part of the quiz.

There we go. Hegamoboa added so much unneccassary variables, expressions and equations.![]()
Yeah, but he provided the general solution, which will work no matter what little tricks you might use to further complicate the problem.
You throw away the outside and cook the inside. Then you eat the outside and throw away the inside. What did you eat?
Figures you'd be the first to answer. And nope.
Are you insinuating that I am an internet ? You are probably right.![]()
hahah, that made me laugh.
That did too.
Just thought I would let you all know. SpursTalk people make me laugh.
