I cannot fathom the hate and evil of the Westboro Cult and their plan to visit their filth upon the grieving families of the Amish.
UPDATE: Mike Gallagher just made a deal with Shirley Phelps Roper that the Cult will not protest the Amish funerals in exchange for an hour of free airtime on his radio show tomorrow. Will they follow through?

UPDATE: Now the Westboro cult is demanding free radio and TV time from anyone in return for not desecrating the funerals. One caveat - all the air time has to be before they funerals. But they still “promise not to attend.”

Is this the same "church" that protests at soldiers' funerals? If so, I've seen that woman (the daughter) in an interview and she's a certifiable nutjob. She says they do it because America has turned away from honoring God or something and they're trying to bring attention to it. What a bunch of horrible people.

Actually, I know the answer, but it still pisses me off. Even though their beliefs may be shared by about 0.000000001% of the population, people like this tantalize the emotions. And if you can get people emotionally charged about something, they'll frequent your website more often to read about it. Cha-ching.

It boggles the mind what some people think is quality family time. I will never understand how people think it's good for kids to be involved in hateful like this. I know it's not the same thing, but for some reason, this made me think of a picture I saw in a book of a Nazi soldier aiming a rifle at a Jewish woman's head as she cradled her child in her arms. But the really disturbing part is that soldier had sent that picture as a postcard to his mother.

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking. It's not a movement in any sense other than "bowel".
I know this probably goes without saying, but this fring cult group has been completely disavowed and disassociated by every major Protestant and Baptist group out there. These people are not indicative of the faith they blatantly misrepresent. They shame a good many people and churches because they attempt to act in the name of God.

I've never heard of this group. Who are they and what do they believe? Why would they protest funerals? I'm baffled. Its so hateful.

The following was a post I made with regards to the cults response to Hurricane Katrina (New Orleans is a den of heathens... got what it deserved...). I hope it adds something to this and maybe shows that just because we happen to both proclaim the name of Jesus as our Lord and Savior, that there are HUGE differences twixt the lifestyles we lead and the doctrines we believe...
I hate - HATE - that these men dare call themselves Christians. They are not. At one point, they may have accepted that free gift of love given by Jesus, but the Bible read "And they will know ye are Christians by your love"...I think too many people are willing to jump on anything they deem extreme that sometimes they undermine an entire people who share the same doctrine, but not belief system.

I really don't like getting involved in discussions like this, but honestly, according to the Bible I've read and the same Bible available to all mankind, those who celebrate in the destruction of lives have serious issues as to whether they can call themselves Christians.
A Christian, by definition, is a "Christ Follower" or a follower of Christ's earthly example.
I believe the phrase I'm looking for is, "He who is without sin, cast the first stone."
Also, "There is none clean, no not one."
This means that for those self-righteous extremists, they have absolutely no right within a "Christian" faith to be delighting in such tradgedy.
I believe it was Jesus who went out of his way to help and guide those who were lost. He befriended and guided those who would liston, but NEVER gave an example for what these morons do now in his name.
It really makes me sad that these folks get the headlines and the ones following Christ's example get absolutely no attention. My Church in Yuma just purchased several trailer homes and will be bringing in several families, supporting their physicl needs until the time comes where they are allowed to rebuild their lives back home.
This has been known around town for upwards of 10 days and not a word is said in the local media. Not the TV, not the radio, not the Newspaper.
Why? Because they aren't parading it around. They aren't like the men who pray alloud for public attention and adoration. They did it out of a kind and loving heart. That was all.
This is the example of Christ, not the (The Westboro Cult).
There will always be issues that divide the religious here from the non-religious, but on this, I know I agree that they are fanatics. I'm not going to put any words in other posters mouths, but Christ was sent to love and for that love to save the world. He was not sent to empower those who claim him to do anything but share this love and to do so freely and unto ALL men.
I see no love in them... none whatsoever...
