I got something in my eye on Friday, I was at Disneyland so first chance I got, I took my contact out, cleaned it and put it back. My eye has never hurt so bad. I ended up having to take the contact out and put it in the lid to my lip-balm with some saline, then had to drive 2 hours home in rush-hour traffic half-blind. That was fun.
I get home, call my optometrist who tells me to get to the ER immediately.
Gee, that was reassuring.
So, apparently, I have a corneal abrasion. Whatever got into my eye on Friday scratched my cornea. It's supposed to heal itself in a couple days, but I don't have a pair of glasses so I had to buy a pair of glasses this morning.
Anyone else have this happen? How quick did it heal for you?
On a side note, I finally got to ride Space Mountain at Disneyland for the first time since it re-opened - sweet!

Ouch! Sorry to hear about that. I think this happened to my husband several years ago, but not to me, although I recently had eye surgery and can't see out of one eye until I get my new prescription. Monocular vision sucks.
When I first read the le I thought it said "Cornmeal Abrasion".

Unfortunately this happened to my Uncle about a month ago at his work. A piece of wood ended up scratching his cornea of his right eye.
He ended up in the ER. They rinsed out the eye and gave him Tylenol 3 for the pain. They told him that it would heal itself therefore he was out of work for 3 days.

I have this two different sources. Once I was at my girlfriends house, lying on her sofea, and 1 year old ran by and raked by eye with her razor-sharp baby fingernail, severely scratching my cornea. holy ing , does that hurt. Just moving your eyeball around under the eyelid is excruciating. Pharmacy guy gave me analgesic balm for my eye, and I wore a patch for a couple days.
The other case was working with with steel.
I was grinding steel and caught a red hot, minute, thin flake of steel on the eyeball. Sticks to the eyeball, scrapes the inside of the eyelid, the pain puts any tough ass sonabithch like me,, on all four crying my eyes out. Doc has to lift the steel off, then analgesic balm.
The other steel injury is arc welding sun burn of the eyes, doesn't show up for about 6 hours, then it's hot sand under the eyelids. Analgesic balm again.
Superficial damages like that hurt like but are often much better the next morning.

I got some pain meds but the pain was gone by yesterday. I can't wear my contacts yet, that does still hurt. The doc said I should be able to wear my contact by Monday so we'll see (no pun intended).
I am remembering why I wear contacts though, these glasses are annoying!

Its happened to me twice. It hurts really, really, really bad. You don't even want to open your eye when you have that. Any type of light hurts it. I had to use my glasses for like three or four days. Its one of the worst feelings. I used natural tear drops in my eye like every hour or so because it relieved the pain a bit.
I got a couple of small arrowhead shaped brick chips stuck in my cornea once...I had to go to the eye doctor to get them removed...he had to pick at my eye with a needle for an hour and a half to finally get them out...the had gone through the outer "skin" on the eye and it had closed back over them...I could feel the needle "clicking" against the chips but he couldn't pull them out...he finally had to enlarge the holes with the needle to get them out...
I was SERIOUSLY ed up when that was over...I was really disoriented and couldn't see except bright hallucinogenic colors...my eyes burned like and I could barely walk...I was dizzy and wanted to throw up plus I was absolutely exhausted...the eyes use a huge amount of energy...
I got a ride home and got in bed with a wet washcloth over my eyes...I finally went to sleep and didn't wake up again for 36 hours...
i scratched my cornea when i was at schlitterbahn i few years back... they put that dye in my eye and put a black light to it and you could see the damn slit in my eye. my eyes were blood red for a week or so and the only cool thing was that i got to wear an eye patch.
How did you get the corn meal in your eye that abraded it anyway?
