Sensational rookie year...I think he lost some of that touch sitting behind Nick "Not-so-quick" Van Exel and watching him under-perform all season. That might have hurt some confidence, but here's to the hope he gets it back. By the turn of the year, I will re-evaluate that assessment, but I think he deserves a shot to get it back.

He is not a solution at all now.

No progression after his rookie year, maybe even a regression and in the game of today and with spurs being a contender Beno as a backup would be a mistake.
Although he might be the 3rd string

I voted yey, because I agree with some posters who think he's the best available solution we have right now.

But I also agree that the Spurs patience is wearing thin and that he won't get many more opportunities (regardless if he's injured or "injured").

Best case scenario is Beno gets angry at Pop, uses that energy to get in the best shape of his life and has a career year.

The Q is - is he a solution - not if he can be the solution.

Beno has the ability its up to him to put it all together....

I haven't really given my 2 cents on this on yet so here we go...

    The positives
    1. Beno can shoot, when he came in his rookie year he was lights out and yet he's still improved with this, to the point where he now has a pullup, leaning forward a little, jumper thats consistent and has shredded many defenses over his short career.

    2. He can pass, his court vision coming into the league as a rook was well above average. The only problem here is he is no longer a rookie... even if that were the last time he played regually.

    Negatives
    1. Defense. Ouch. Beno is a biggish PG, even if he were in shape he would be of a bigger frame than most. He needs to step up his conditioning and quickness if he wishes to crack the rotation.

    2. Handles... not really blowing anyones mind there am I?

    Overall
It is definately in the Spurs best interests if Beno can get healthy, get fit and learn to dribble. Should that all occur the rest should all fall into place and Beno will be a solid backup PG and probably deserve a starting role somewhere in the league.

Good summary, but I am afraid of doghouse size and extension, I don't see POP treating him better.

I want beno to grow some balls this year. I think he could be an effective back up point guard if he could just improve his toughness. I say Beno yea. He is going to improve, because e has been called out by Pop.

at this point i would take jacque vaughn over beno, without a doubt. beno is injury prone, and so far in the preseason vaughn has shown that he can control the offense pretty well. he doesnt have to take a ton of shots,in fact,he doesnt have to take any shots,we have the scorers,we just need someone to get them the ball when tony is on the bench. im starting to really like the signing of vaughn. and if jay williams doesnt end up making the nets team, i would consider signing him too....the reports out of nets camp say that he isnt as fast anymore, but with the spurs playing more of a halfcourt game, he doesnt have to always push the ball....and the nets have like 18,000 other point guards too...so if they keep jay williams, theres always guys like eddie house,or jeff mcginnis

Could we perhaps trade our Beno for another? I think its a fair trade at this point.

seriously though, he needs to stay at least until we find something better.

Beno gotta go..... he would of done some good if he were consistant, he should of taken advantage of this oppurtunity, he should of wished a bit harder to stay but i do believe his days are numbered in this town.... this is the SOFTNESS of this team.....when a player can not, will not, or can not show up and give you 100% every game, it's time to move on.
