I don't think you can do it yourself, so your question should have been "How EXPENSIVE is it to fix deployed airbags?" and the answer is bend over and grab 'em.

They aren't fixed they are replaced, and they are usually quite expensive.

A little over $900.00 in my case. It was a tap that caused no body damage, but was still enough of a jar to trigger the air bags.

I don't even have a car or license yet, I'm just wondering.

Don't have they get electronically sensored back into the car and that's the only thing that makes it so expensive?

    "makes it so expensive"

... any branded parts from authorized dealer is burgulary.

I blew out the amp on my Toyota very boring factory radio/cd player. $600, parts only!! The mfr spare parts prices are not in any way fair. They figure you're stupid enough, or don't have any choice, or got more money than brains, so they you.

    I instead installed $99 Sony.

The hinged elbow rest between the front seats has its flimsy plastic hinges broken. Toyota wants "we gonna you" $200. It stays broken.

I understand that given the complexity of the airbag and the danger involved if they inflate inadvertantly while driving, the tolerances of manufacture are extremely tight, and the testing and inspection involved is extremely rigorous.

    This incurs expense.

It is not just a matter of re-stuffing the airbag like a parachute and re-installing parts. The violent nature of inflating an airbag in 1/25 of a second probably damages the assembly to the point where it cannot be re-used.

boutons, we have common ground here. My daughter's Infiniti needs a new lamp for a headlight. I went to the dealer and the guy told me 3-0-7-7-6. I told him, I needed the price, not the part number. He showed me the screen, the item was $284 plus tax. He told me I should try NAPA.
NAPA had the part in Dallas, it still cost $85. Time to get an American car.

My cousin used duct tape to put the airbag back in her car. It looked ghetto as but it did the job.

An Infiniti is a luxury car. Luxury car parts are expensive. If somebody is looking for a car that is cheap to drive, don't buy a luxury car. The cost of ownership of a Cadillac is not going to be substantially cheaper than that of an Infiniti.

Was that Infiniti headlight xenon perchance? That's $$$ technology.

For the best value in budget auto ownership, buy a one- or two-year-old American car. That's the flipside of the horrible depreciation with a brand-new American car. You'll save as much as 50% over MSRP, the remaining depreciation won't be too bad, and parts will be readily available and relatively cheap. It won't be as reliable as a similarly aged Japanese car, but for $5000-$8000 less to buy, the added headaches are probably worth it.

It's only 1.7 Mil. If I just go around the US asking for 1 Dollar from 1,700,000 people, I'm sure I can afford it.
