Graham And Starosta Likely To Be Cleveland Roster Casualties
23rd October, 2006 - 1:23 pm
Beacon Journal - Mike Brown, head coach of the Cavaliers, expects to make his final two cuts by the middle of this week.
Guard Stephen Graham and center Ondrej Starosta are the candidates most likely to be released.
Stephen over Melvin, but Joey over Stephen
Didn't we briefly have him on a roster, summer league or elsewhere?
If we're going to stay short, get Devin back here.
Stephen was in training camp last year for the Spurs. He was cut at this time last year, along with Melvin and Sharrod Ford. The Spurs ended up re-signing Melvin later.
I think Stephen will eventually be better than Joey.
It does seem like Stephen works harder, probably because he had to fight his way into the league, but there had to be a few reasons why Joey was a first rounder and Stephen went undrafted.
Joey's got the edge on athleticism and is more of an "inside" presence, but I think both round out to be little better than role players. To be honest, I wouldn't mind either, but I think they both are more attractive options for the long-term issue of athletic/long 3 than Melvin.
yeah i would rather have stephen Graham over mevlin sanders, but my preference would also be to bring Devin Brown back.
I watched a lot of Stephen last year because I watched a lot of CBA games. I just think that long term he'll end up better (though you are right, they aren't going to be stars or anything).
I think the Spurs, if they keep anyone, will end up keeping Melvin because of his relationship with the team more than his on the court abilities. Sort of like Sean Marks in past seasons.
That's classic coming from the person who argued on the other side of that the last 18 months or whatever.
Oh and Devin > Stephen > Joey > Melzer > Sanders
Graham was known as a good, physical defender, wasn't he? He hasn't produced a whole lot in the same gametime Sanders has been given.
Pietrus > Stephen > Joey > Melzer > Sanders
Yeah, since when did Pietrus get cut?
Yeah just kind of poking fun at the long list of names. I figured we never specified that the player we preferred had to be cut. I think at least the kid I mentioned is attainable, or will be so in the near future.
How classic of you to leave out the first half of the sentence. I don't want to stay small.
Stephen Graham was waived today by Cleveland, bringing their roster down to 16 players.
Id rather bring back Devin Brown and play small ball the rightway.
Trail Blazers Claim Stephen Graham Off Waivers

blazers.com - The Portland Trail Blazers today claimed guard/forward Stephen Graham off waivers.
Graham averaged 3.0 points and 7.0 minutes in three games for the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2006-07 preseason. He also played for the Cavaliers in the 2006 Vegas Summer League. In five games he averaged 9.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 24.4 minutes.
The 6-6 swingman played in 22 NBA games in his rookie season (2005-06) with Chicago, Houston and Cleveland averaging 2.6 points, 1.2 rebounds and 8.0 minutes.

And he was claimed off waivers by Portland.

Yeah, Stephen Graham was too good not to get claimed off waivers. From what I've seen, he's an NBA talent.
In fact, I'm shocked Ferry couldn't get a second round pick for him from some team.
He might be able to knock of Ime Udoka. Maybe.
That would be odd since Udoka has been playing so well in pre-season. But if they do I would defiantly like the Spurs to take a look at him.
That's why I said maybe. Udoka is a pretty versatile player and everyone likes him wherever he goes. I kinda pulling for him since he's older and has fewer chances than a guy like Graham.
