Will TD be in MVP form this year? Can we expect 22+ and 11+ a night? I've heard as bigs age they get better, (i.e Hakeem) and add new moves to their aresnal. I think TD better be in MVP form he's gonna be lugging the forwards this year.
With Timmy at 100% -- and hopefully avoiding ankle injuries (knock on wood) -- I think he'll be a top 5 for MVP. I don't think he'll get it though, with Tony carrying a good portion of the scoring load. However, I do think we'll see a few new things from Timmy on defense, being that he'll be playing more center and going up against some bigs like Yao. It will be interesting to see how he responds.
He got better for like the first 80% of his career, but has been on a decline. Hakeem only declined when he got hurt and never rebounded back.

The things going for Tim are that he's never depended on his athleticism and is not a crack head. So Tim should be a big man who ages well. I think that if he stays hungry he's got four more dominant years left. I'd look for a sharp decline at 35ish.
So I'm assuming that Tim takes good care of himself and having had this summer off has helped him immensely, and I've heard that directly from Pop's mouth (via my parents). So I expect Tim to have a monster season.
Add the physical aspect to the motivational aspect and considering its an odd numbered year, I'm expecting huge things.
He is my early pick for league MVP.
If Tim's healthy he's easily a top 5 candidate for MVP. It will be extremely tough for him to beat the next generation guys though. Lebron and D-Wade will be stiff compe ion. , Nowitski has a real shot at it too.
Tim should be back to form, and every indication is that he's healthy. We can expect 22 and 11 from him.
I'm thinking more along the lines of 23/13/4
I think 22/11 is MORE than a realistic expectation from him. Now how effective he is blocking shots with his foot/ankle and passing within the system might boost his numbers, hence boosting his shot at MVP.
I say he returns to his former self with 2003esque rebounding numbers - blocked shots who knows.
I just want that he is healthy. If he will be than we can expect 25pts. and 14reb. per game.
22, 12, and 3 plus 2 BS a game.. Spurs have the best record in the league.. Duncan might just be the MVP if this happens
I just wonder if he will put up those same numbers if TP scores as much as he did last season? But I guess with a healthier Timmy we can expect an increase from the 18 and 11 he averaged last season.
if duncan puts bigger numbers, parker would put lesser numbers than last year. There's only enough shots to go around... why ride duncan during a somewhat-meaningless reg. season ?
Because he's our best player? I dunno. Why don't you guys just give the ball to Jason Terry instead of riding Dirk all year? Wouldn't want his numbers to go down.
I think we'll see Parker's numbers stay about the same, while Timmy and Manu increase their scoring (depending upon Manu's role.) There's plenty of points to go around.

Wow. I dont see how you can project a 24/12 line or anything close to that when you look at Duncan's stats over the past two seasons.

He's clearly in a statistical decline, and likely will hover around his numbers from those two seasons for the rest of his career.
I'm projecting an increase in scoring to 20.1 ppg, and a decrease in rebounding to 10.8 per game.
Hakeem only started to fade significantly at 34-5, Tim is 30. Hmmmm. Why the is everyone expecting Timmy to be declining at 30? 30 is middle of prime for big men. Sheesh.
He'll be back and, barring injury, I think he'll be good for 21/12/2.5 and some nasty D. Hopefully he finds his bank again, because that was so pretty to watch.
Remember also that his scoring numbers are in decline because Tony and Manu have taken up much of the scoring load and the nature of the offence has changed.

Pop isnt going to be upping his minutes this season. He's more likely to reduce them again.
Why? His minutes increased last season even with the PF. He's going to play more center and the big men surrounding him are largely unproven. Considering the PF pain is gone, Pop is more likely to increase Tim's minutes. If an injury to Tim is all you can hope for, you're a pathetic Mavfan. It's also very convenient of you to ignore the ascension of Tony Parker that has taken alot of shots away from Duncan.Pop isnt going to be upping his minutes this season. I think about it objectively. i want the Spurs to have the best record and win it all. I want TiMVP to average 22/11/2. However, If TP can ave 20+/7+ and Manu can ave 15/5/5, and have a well ballanced TEAM attack on our way to our 4th, I'm not sure if Timmy would get enough votes, or if I would even care.
You also have to remember, if No-win-ski has another stellar year that will dilute the middle of the nation votes, and if KG has one of his normal years and the TWolves are in the thick of it, that will further dilute the vote. With showboat star potential from Kobe, Nash, LeBron and Wade, plus having to garner votes against dirk and KG, might be pretty tough in this day and age to get another MVP for Timmy. He just isn't nationwide highlight material today.
Plus... each of the afore mentioned would be solely counted on to win a close game. Tim used to be, but doesn't have to be anymore. Frankly I couldn't (and for some reason I highly doubt Timmy couldn't) give a flying flip about the reg season MVP - I want a Finals MVP.

I honestly couldn't care less if Timmy gains any accolades this season; his resume is already set. The important thing is that he is healthy and primed to go come playoff time. If Timmy is healthy at playoff time, I'll like the Spurs' chances.
