Cut and dry: Deal would help
    By Steve Bulpett/ Celtics Notebook
    Boston Herald Sports Reporter

The Celtics still have one cut to make, but they’d rather not have to wield that blade. According to league sources, the Celts have been looking to make a more-bodies-for-fewer deal that would leave them at, or below, the 15-man limit.

It has been indicated either Michael Olowokandi, Luke Jackson or Allan Ray will have to go. But coach Doc Rivers reiterated yesterday it would be tough to let go of a veteran big man with Theo Ratliff still out (back strain).

Ray, an impressive shooter who also might fit into the point guard rotation, is one they’d like to keep. Jackson is a good shooter in a crowded field.

The best solution for Rivers might be to have the choice taken out of his hands by a move made by director of basketball operations Danny Ainge that will offer roster flexibility and perhaps some inside help.

So will this be the general way the Celtics roster looks on Opening Night next Wednesday?

“I always think it’s going to be the same as it is until it isn’t,” Ainge said. “I’ve been talking for the last six months with teams, so it’s not like something’s going to come up out of nowhere. I can’t say we definitely won’t do something, but at this point, I think we have to get ready for the season with what we have.

“I like our players. We have a versatile team.”

Luke can't be traded for awhile and he's a less talented, more fragile Brent Barry. All of Boston's players are either super cheap or criminally overpaid. There's a jump from $2.8 million for Scalabrine to $11 million for WallyWorld with nothing in between. i'm sure they're trying to get rid of Theo Ratliff somehow. Good luck with that, Danny.

I'm trying to figure out why they traded for Jackson in the first place.
