RIP, Red.
R.I.P.
One the great personalities that gave life to professional basketball.
Damn, that's sad to see. The guy was King not just for NBA dominance and his great personality, but for the fact that he could constantly puff cigars and still live to be 89. That guy was TOUGH.
Lived to be 89, were that I be so lucky. Anyway, R.I.P.
One of the greatest pioneers in the game and best coaches ever.
Sad sad day for the game of basketball.
RIP a basketball icon.
R.I.P., one of the true ambassadors of the game.
Thanks for everything, Red. You've left the garden much greener.
It's a sad day in the basketball world. but it conjures up so many great memories.
The highest of tributes to a great teacher, motivator, tactician and winner. For so many years, Red was the Figurehead of professional basketball. He succeeded here on earth in so many things, like few have succeeded. I hope he had his spiritual life in order as well.
We'll miss you, Red.
RIP, Red. You left your mark.
RIP. The greatest coach/GM ever.
Thanks for all the memories, Red
This cigar is for you
RIP...the nba wouldnt be the same without you
IMO a pioneer in that he helped Bill Russel become the first I believe african american head coach in the NBA.
Something thats not brought up alot, of course, I could be factually wrong and if I am I apologize.
I believe that's correct---and maybe the first head coach in any of the US professional sports leagues
NBA Icon for sure... he should NEVER be forgoten... God rest his soul.
"1966, legendary Celtics coach Red Auerbach named Russell his successor as head coach; he thus became the first African-American head coach in US major league team sports history."
