BASKETBALL REPORTER
The Toronto Raptors are close to making sure their point guard of the present remains their point guard in the future.
League sources told Globesports.com that the Raptors are on the verge of reaching a contract extension with T.J. Ford, the diminutive speedster they acquired from the Milwaukee Bucks in an off-season trade involving former Raptor Charlie Villanueva.
"[They're] working on getting something done, I'm optimistic," said one source close to the negotiations who did not want to be identified...
Barring a last-minute reversal, an announcement on an extension is expected later Monday or Tuesday...
Terms of the pending deal were unavailable, but league sources suggest Ford — who averaged 12.2 points and 6.6 assists last season with the Milwaukee Bucks — could command a five-year contract beginning at $7-million (U.S.) per season...

and terry only got 8 million a year
unreal
They'd better get GOOD insurance on that contract. He's one good hard fall away from his career being over.
Woah. Not only does Colangelo give up one of the best young power forwards in the league, he's going to overpay TJ Ford on top of it?
God bless daddy, I guess.
Alot of people said he overpaid for Steve Nash too...
TJ Ford will be an all star this year.
Book it.
Maybe, but they'd be taking a huge risk. The Toronto Raptors will undoubtedly be an improved team this year (maybe significantly) and whether he deserves it or not, TJ Ford will likely be considered one of the reasons why, unless he is injured for a majority of the season. That means he could increase his value $3 or 4 mil a year with a decent performance and an improved overall team.
The risks are great on either side, but I guess Colangelo figured that Ford really fit into what they wanted to do. That and they locked him up before there was public outcry about potentially losing Charlie Villanueva for nothing.
TJ Ford is not as much of an injury risk as people make him out to be. His one major injury, specifically the length that he was out, was a complete abberation. The odds of anybody in the NBA, let alone TJ Ford, missing significant time due to the injury is slim to none.

I really hope Colangelo knows what he's doing. I mean with choosing Bargnani and trading away Villanueva and now thi, he's either gonna turn out to be a genius or an imbecile.
Villanueva has talent, but has little to no desire with the game of basketball. He seems to be shaping himself into this century's Derrick Coleman, which could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending how you look at it.
He is also wildly inconsistent, have a limited basketball IQ, is perimeter oriented, and is ineffective without the ball. All of this without mentioning his very suspect defense.
Besides, TJ Ford is as fast as they come, and has a pass-first, pass-second, shoot-third mentality.

So :According to sources the deal — an extension that will kick-in next season -- is for three years with a player option for a fourth season at an average salary of $8.6-million (US).
TJ Ford : $8.6M/year
Kirk Hinrich : $9.5M/year ($47.5M/5 years)

I'm going to agree here about Villanueva. No one ever doubted his talent, just his work ethic. Besides, Bargnani duplicates those talents, but seems to have more of a winner's edge and work ethic. I think in 5yrs Bargnani will be the better player.
TJ Ford gets contract extension
TJ Ford gets 4 years, $33 mil. The last year is player option. The Raptors overpaid big time. $8+ mil a year for a guy who isn't even in the top 10 at his position is ridiculous. I'm not even sure Ford would crack my top 15.

Trust me, if there's a complete and coherent sentence in a ducks post, we all know it's a cut-and-paste job. Don't worry.

It's www : if you don't want that people cut/past your great posts, keep your thoughts for yourself and don't post them on a message board.
When I've lurked SR, I've seen some of my posts cut/past per Ducks. Ducks wants to share what he reads with a lot of people, sharing infos is one of the goal of internet.
sorry sometimes when I post what someone writes on another board I post I found on another board I will try to do that more
I do not share insider's info on either board to the other though
I still do not get why sr.com and spurstalk can not just get along

I posted a responce back at the other place
I find that you overreacts.
It's not like ducks stole a complete analysis of Spurs made by you.
The purpose of his post was to inform people about Ford's new deal details and not to steal your opinion on Ford's deal. Just look at other posts made on this thread and you will see that your POV is shared by a lot of people.
Ducks has not been really meticulous and you can blame him for that but the bottomline is that ducks goal was to share and info from a newspaper and not to steal your POV to look cleverer.
"incredibly lame" is way out proportion.
"If cut & paste is SOP here then so be it." : ducks cut/past post from ST to SR too, don't speak about a board you obviously don't know.
I think it is a way overreaction
if a poster from either board private messaged me
NO one has not about this
I would have made sure to put quotes when I post what someone else wrote
people are so unsecure it is not funny
