I suspect DBrown will be the odd man out, provided the Spurs don't find a way to dump Rose's contract this season.

actually TP's new contract starts with the 2005/06 year. This year is the final year of his rookie contract.

LJ and I were talking about this last night. I think the Spurs are in awesome position.

They have the core locked up:

    Tim
    Tony
    Manu
    Bowen
    Rasho
    Malik
    Barry
    Beno

They have youth and potential in Linton and Sato on 3-year nonguaranteed contracts. So that makes 10 guys potentially locked up for 3 years or more. They have the MLE, that they could split between Devin/Scola (or give it all to one of them if they really breakout). So that make 12 guys.

What team in the league can say they have the possibility of having 12 solid players locked up?

Should we sit and worry that they'll have to fill out IR with minimum players and draft picks?

They are in good shape, but I'm still concerned that they could lose a potential very good player in Brown.

If Horry departs after the season, Massenburg doesn't come back, Rose is traded, and Rasho is underwhelming, it would seem to me that Scola would be a priority. Even if one or two of those things happen, Pop and RC may consider Scola a priority.

I guess it depends how much they will cost. It's not unreasonable that the upper limit for those two players combined could top out at $7-8 million per season. If that happens, is Holt prepared to pay it? I would hate to see Brown go.

The Spurs are going to cut payroll somewhere. I have no doubt that Holt is going to push for the (1) retention of the luxury tax and (2) a higher lux tax threshold in the next CBA but I think that given how miserly he was about Parker's contract that the Spurs are going to cut back somewhere.

Yes, the Spurs in theory should be able to retain DBrown and most of their role players. But where there is a way is not necessarily a will.

Spurs have Brown, Scola's rights, their and possibly the Suns pick next year. Wouldn't be bad if they tried to create some package to move up and draft a young stud big.

I agree with MB. Look for Holt to push for keeping the Luxury Tax, but setting a higher threshold for it. Say around $60 million or so.

Also, just because they'll have access to the MLE every year doesn't mean they'll make use of it. Especially if the Lux Tax threshold stays where it is.

I have adjusted Tony Parker's est. salary for 2004-05 ($1,545,441), per suggestion by maxpower. Parker's numbers have not been listed on any site yet, so 6 extended years of salary is rough estimate based on annual increases of 10% of first extended year's salary (current CBA guidelines).

Beno Udrih's numbers now include 4 years of contract projections rather than 5 originally listed from the hoopshype.com listing.

They have his Early Bird Rights, so they can sign him without having to use the MLE.

True, but will they? If he has a solid season then his price would be about $3 mil starting for 2 or 3 years.

I think he'll end up with the Spurs generic 3year/$10 contract they usually offer.

The Spurs have a young, exceptionally talented core under contract for at least 5 years and are widely acknowledged as le favorites. Aside from that, they also have the MLE exception available to them every year they are over the cap.

Now if you want a real example of something that sucks, I submit that paying Briant Grant like Tim Duncan for the next 2 years, sucks. I could also say that having Chucky Atkins as your starting point guard sucks. I might even say that being a fan of a team that isn't currently a contender sucks. See a pattern?

I suggest that you at least attempt to post intelligent takes or your stay here might be very short. The fact that even the resident Lakers fans here dislike you should be telling you something.

    Carry on.
