Don't be afraid.
I realize Jackie Butler isn't a rookie, but is there any word how he and James White are doing? The only mention they ever get is a stray blurb at the end of a Ludden article every blue moon. I'm afraid the only time we'll ever of White again is December 31st, when he gets cut.
Don't be afraid.
Who knows? It says something that they picked this guy up so early in the season. We'll see how it goes.
Butler is fat but getting thinner.
They are both in the Stephen Jackson program. We'll see them in a game here or there but in the summer and next year will be when they start showing what they can do.
Butler is a lock to be a pretty big part of the team's future. If James White practices hard, stays out of trouble and puts in the extra effort, the Spurs will keep him around.
Stays out of trouble? Is that a sneaky way of saying you know something about his off court persona that might be a problem. I hope not.
So White's contract becomes guaranteed after Dec. 31st? I hope that he gets the system and puts in the work because I could see him being a major contributor in the future.
The book on White is that his mentality and overall toughness were questioned repeatedly over his four year college stint. However, his college coaching staff raved about his work ethic.
He improved virtually every year he was in college and though he never turned out to be a college superstar, he did improve significantly into an all-around player.
The Spurs would be wise to develop him. They would be fools to give up on this guy too early. After trading away their 1st round draft pick, getting this guy off waivers was esssentially like a freebie development pick.

I've been reading up on White...to me he appears to be a classic case of a guy asked to be a dominant player/superstar due to his talent that simply doesn't have the mental makeup to pull it off.
The NBA is full of guys like that that have had productive and even great careers once they were allowed to get comfortable in their niche....
Shawn Maron is one guy that instantly comes to mind.
Marion is not a dominant player and never will be, he is however a force as a role player.
Another guy that immediately comes to mind is Robert Horry...when Horry first came into the NBA he was mega talented for his position and was even compared to Magic Johnson...people expected him to emerge as a dominant player, and use the potential and versatility he showed for an entire game or season, and when he failed to show improvement or the ability to do that, he was given up on by the Rockets...however once he was allowed to just be a role player he turned into a guy that could be counted on to contribute in huge games.
Lots of guys like that in the NBA and that seems to be the type of player White will be...the only negative I can see about him is that he isn't a dominant player and fails to live up to his potential.....Hopefully Pop can resist the urge to try and turn him into something he's not. He failed at this with Rasho and it's been part of the problem with Barry as well. You can't change a players mind. IF they don't have the desire to be great, a natural agression, or killer instinct to begin with, you can't make them have it.

So you're saying he's like the Marcus Bryant of the nba?
James is how old?
Exactly.
Let's not jump to conclusions about how he will be and is when we haven't even seen him yet, or really even given him a chance.
24, actually. Parker and Udrih are older by about 5 and 3 months.
Your team sucks and its old, why would ur rookies matter, popa only puts in old guys.
SOMEONE'S still bitter.Your team sucks and its old, why would ur rookies matter, popa only puts in old guys.
You are free to speak once your team wins a DAMN game![]()
As for next year's lineup when they get a shot:
C OBERTO/BUTLER
PF DUNCAN/ELSON(Assuming we ditch Boner and Horry retires)
SF BOWEN/WHITE(Assuming we ditch E-Will)
SG MANU/FINLEY/BARRY
PG TONY/BENO(Assuming we ditch Vaughn)
This is the only way I got the lineup to work with Oberto still starting.(Assuming he keeps up the good work.)
If this is the frontcourt of the future, where does Javtokas and Mahinmi fit in?
Mahinmi, should he develop, would the power forward of the future with Butler playing the five. If White can be groomed to be a perimeter defensive stopper ala Bruce Bowen, there is your post Duncan starting five:
C- Butler
PF - Mahinmi
SF - White
SG - ??
PG - Parker
Eric Williams only is under contract through this season so he will be gone next season. I don't have Manu in the above line up because he is the oldest of the five and because of his playing style, I don't anticipate he will have a long NBA career.
^^Of course there are three big ifs in the above post. Major props to the front office if this is what evolves. Don't forget Sandize either.
Wow. Yeah, I doubt any of that happens. The only guy in there with any real shot of ever starting as a Spur is Jackie Butler. Mahinmi, Sanikidze, and White all face extremely long odds (in increasing order).
well next year elson's contract is up, so ian can come in after that....and javtokas......well, we'll probably never see him
I thought it was Oberto whose contract is up. We got Elson to a 3-year right?
we got butler for 3 and elson for 2
