SilverPlayer said the same thing that I also have been thinking, but reluctant to say:

He believes that Tony Parker is one of the top 5 players in the NBA and should be in the top 5 mvp voting. I agree with this.

Anybody else agree / disagree with this?

However, because Tim is healthy again and because defense is half of the game and because Tim helps Tony more on offense than Tony helps Tim, I think that Tony is the second best player on the Spurs right now.

0% chance Tony finishes top 5 in MVP voting this year, not with a healthy Tim Duncan on the team

    YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!
but he won't be... simply coz of Duncan's presence and because he's underrated at times.

I understand what you are saying.

I just think that this makes sense.

I have total confidence in Tony's jumper. He shreds defenses.
He may score about 24 points a game, shoot 50 % from the field and average 6 assists. Fans and analysts know that the other team's defense has stopping Tony Parker as one of the two things they must do to beat the Spurs. In other words, Tony affects the entire strategy of the other team.

LeBron James, Wade, Kobe, Tim and Tony are my top candidates.

LeBron has not been as good so far this year, neither has Wade or Kobe.
It is still early in the season and Kobe is recovering. Nevertheless, Tim and Tony are playing better than the rest.

I believe that the first thing that the other teams must do is stop Tim Duncan since he is healthy. The second thing is to stop Tony Parker's penetration in the lane.

Tim is healthy and his age is not a factor at this point. Tim Duncan is, in my opinion, one of the top 5 players to ever play the game. I would rate him as the best pure post player of all time. Since he is healthy, then for the reasons that he is a top 5 player of all time, I must pick Tim over Tony for mvp this year.

In the words of Al Michaels, Tim comes up big when you have to come up big.

Game 6 of 2003 championship was one of the greatest performances in basketball history in my view. Two blocked shots shy of the first ever Finals quadruple double? Finals mvp ever time that made the Finals. The second half of the third quarter and the fourth quarter of game 7 in 2005, Tim was dominant.
Same thing for game 5 of 1999.

Even when we lost last year, it surely was not on Tim who scored 41 points, gathered 15 rebounds and dished out 6 assists. He had an incredible game.

In short, Duncan steps up when his teammates dont step up right? Parker in the Dallas series wasn't the same Parker who dominated during the season, regardless of stats

Parker's great and given his youth, experience, what's he's already done, and what he's capable of doing, there are very few players I would trade him for.

But he's not top 5 in the league at this point in time.

He may be ready to move into the top 5 PGs in the game though. And we've reached the point where most reasonable people would agree that:

    Parker > Kidd

Parker isn't going to get MVP consideration until he shakes his reputation as a shrinker in the clutch. In years past with the game on the line the ball has usually gone to Tim or Manu, and his playoff numbers have some drop off. That may change this year. It may have to if Manu doesn't find his game soon. But for now the book on Parker is that he's a game changer, but not a game winner. That'll get you on the AS team, but it won't get you any MVPs.

I give Parker alot of credit for his continued improvement as a player- but he does not have the magic. That is just something with which you are born.

What does this have to do with Rasho? No wonder I try not to get into discussions with anyone about anything on here anymore.

I simply believe that certain players have that little extra- that magic- that wins them an MVP award, and I don't see that in Tony. It is not taking away from what he does to say he won't win an MVP award.

Sorry- if I don't think he is one of the top 5 players in the NBA. I would think he would be happy to be considered one of the top 5 point guards in the NBA.
    tp last year in playoffs>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>manu
And this makes him an MVP candidate?

I simply was pointing out he was not choking in the playoffs
he was one of the more consistent spur players in the postseason
he performed awesome when his leg was not bothering him
