Darko Milicic will be a restricted free agent this summer and hopes to sign a multi-year deal worth about $60 million.

"We weren't that far apart," Orlando General Manager Otis Smith said. "We just determined that it wasn't in the best interest of our organization to enter into an extension based on 30 games (from last season)."

Milicic is the only player out of the top-8 selections of the 2003 draft not to have signed an extension.

Him asking for $60 mil isn't nearly as crazy as the GM saying that the number they are willing to pay isn't "that far off".

This kid is half a year removed from being labeled the biggest bust in NBA Draft history, however unfair it may be. And while I don't think he's the "bust" everyone labeled him as, I certainly think it hurt his development to ride the pine in detriot for three years. He's essentially a rookie as far as his development right now, and though he's playing well, I think the Magic would be making a big mistake to pay him near-max type money even if it is for only 3 years b/c it will severly hurt their cap situation if he isn't the answer.
