So much for recent traditions and opening the baseball season in St. Louis with an afternoon game.

Television wins again.

The World Series champion Cardinals will play host to Yadier Molina's favorite foe, the New York Mets, in the 2007 major league opener on Sunday night April 1.

The game, a rematch of this year's NL championship series, will be televised nationally by ESPN2 starting at 7:05 p.m..

After an off day on April 2, the series concludes with games April 3 and 4.

The Cardinals play 20 of their first 34 games and 22 of their final 37 at Busch Stadium.

The Cubs visit Busch three times: April 27-29, July 24-26 and Sept. 14-16.

The Cardinals visit their World Series opponent, the Detroit Tigers, for interleague play May 18-20.

In other interleague action: the Angels visit Busch on June 8-10; the Cardinals make their first visit to Oakland on June 15-17; and two series against the Royals are planned (at Busch on June 18-20, and at Busch Stadium West on June 12-14).
