As a Michigan fan, this sucks royally. We lost the face of the program. May he rest in peace.

Although not a Michigan fan, I am a fan of college football....and this does suck. College football has lost a member of its royalty.

Tell you what though...if you happen to hear thunder in Columbus tomorrow...you just know its Woody and Bo going at it.

The main reason many of us became UofM fans in the first place.

A true giant in the sporting world which will be sorely missed.

Great man, great coach, great life.

While the timing is strange, his life should be remembered and celebrated.

I hope it doesn't interfere with the game too much.

Let the game stand by itself. Let Bo and his legacy stand by itself.

Tomorrow's headlines should be about the game. Respect Bo and his passing. But, let the game be about the game.

    RIP Bo.

I've been an OSU fan forever, but I also had the utmost respect for Schembechler. Big loss for all fans of college football. RIP

Doubtful. They addressed their thoughts about Bo on their Web site earlier and said that he even got a kick out of the band's name.

yeah, i doubt they will in the future because it's just an eerie coincidence... but this was a nice gesture

"Folded in the inside pocket of my jacket, as I sit here in O'Hare Airport awaiting a connection and digesting the sad news of Bo Schembechler's death, is a printed Ticket Master pass for tonight's "Hate Michigan Rally" in Columbus. My flight gets in just before 7 p.m. ET. The music was set to start at 8. Headlining the event is the self-described "Michigan Hate-Core" band called the Dead Schembechlers. While the show has been renamed the "Beat Michigan Rally" and the band's name has been changed on the marquee to "God Bless Bo,"

    Well, I was wrong.

Bo's namesake punk group to disband

    November 17, 2006

COLUMBUS -- Of all the sad ironies arising from the death of Bo Schembechler on the eve of the Michigan-Ohio State game, one of the most awkward surrounds the punk rock band that cheers for OSU by poking fun at Bo and all things maize and blue.

The band's name is the Dead Schembechlers.

Suddenly, that seems wrong, but on the day Bo Schembechler died, the band seems to have done everything right.

They say their appearance Friday night at the Hate Michigan Rally will be their last gig, and vowed to donate all proceeds from the rally -- tickets are $8 and $10 -- to a charity of the Schembechler family's choice.

"Our group would like to extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt prayers to the Schembechler family on their loss," said Bo Biafra, the group's lead singer, at an afternoon gathering at the 1,700-seat Newport Music Hall across from the OSU campus.

The four members dress like Woody Hayes dressed as a coach but have stage names that start with Bo: In addition to Biafra, they are Bo Thunders, Bo Vicious and Bo Scabies. They sing songs with les like "Schembechler Kicked My Crippled Dog," and have developed a fanciful mythology about the greatness of OSU football.

With the Michigan-Ohio State game bigger than ever this year, the band has been profiled recently in media outlets from the Los Angeles Times to ESPN.com.

Schembechler learned of the group only in the past couple of weeks, and he laughed about it and even joked about the band during his last appearance at a Monday news conference.

On Friday, not long after the announcement of Schembechler's passing, the Schembechlers posted this message on their web site: "The band wishes to say, 'We are crushed to learn of the death of Bo Schembechler, OSU's most valiant foe.'"

At mid-afternoon, the four appeared in the lobby of the Newport Music Hall, wearing red windbreakers, "O" ball caps and 1960s-style black frame glasses -- just like Woody.

Without mentioning the band's name, Biafra talked for about 90 seconds and took no questions.

"We would like to announce that this will be our final show tonight," he said. "If we perform again in the future, which is still up in the air at this point, it will not be under our current band name."

Biafra said band members were overjoyed when they learned Bo had discovered the band and seemed to get the joke -- "celebrating the greatest rivalry in the history of sports."

Said Biafra: "I know that all Buckeye fans share our sadness."

Outside the music hall, they took down the words "Dead Schembechlers" on the marquee.

They subs uted the words, "God Bless Bo."
