Foothill Ends Colts' Season
Colt's running back Dejon Gomes and the rest of the James Logan offense tried to stuff defeat down the throats of the Foothill High School Falcons in the first round of the North Coast Section varsity football play-offs Friday night in Pleasanton, but, in the end, it was the Colts who choked.

The Colts offense racked up 348 yards rushing against Foothill, nearly as many yards on the ground as Foothill gave up during the entire regular season, but the Falcons outdid them with 447 total yards and 32 points to Logan's 29.

Running back Dejon Gomes lead the charge for the Colts, scoring all four of the teams touchdowns and running for 168.

The Colts came into the game underdogs. Foothill went undefeated to an 11-0 record, while Logan lost two early season non-league games before going on to win the Mission Valley Athletic League championship with an unbeated league record.

Logan was winning the game with less than four minutes on the clock, 29-26, but the offense stalled and punted to give the Falcons the ball near the 50-yard line with about 2 minutes to go.

The Falcons didn't need that much time. In quick fashion, most notably a 23-yard pass from Falcon quarterback Josh Mendonca to Jordan Johnson that moved the ball inside the 15 yard line, Foothill scored the go-ahead touchdown on an eight-yard pass to Ryan Theige.

Logan was left with 90 seconds to try to score, but, lacking a passing game all night, was only able to move the ball to midfield before time expired.

Foothill awaits the outcome of tonight's game between Pittsburg and Deer Valley to learn which school it will play next.

So let's see...I'll spend my upcoming Friday night working the desk on the second week of the playoffs and my Saturday night covering two teams which actually won their first-round playoff games (South San vs. CC Flour Bluff @ The Rockpile).

Well, as with anybody who disapproves of what a journalist writes, you should probably take it up with that journalist.

Personally, I would be hard-pressed to write that a team choked, much less a high school team.
