Peter Jackson not wanted for 'The Hobbit'
    Monday, November 20 2006, 10:38 UTC - by Ben Rawson-Jones

The production studio behind the Lord Of The Rings films has told director Peter Jackson that he is not wanted for their forthcoming movie version of The Hobbit.

The news follows a dispute between Jackson's Wingnut Films and New Line studios over the accounting on the popular trilogy, leading to an ongoing legal battle between the two parties that has yet to be resolved.

In a letter to Lord Of The Rings website TheOneRing.net, Jackson said that studio New Line had contacted an associate and stated that it "would no longer be requiring our services on The Hobbit and the LOTR 'prequel'. This was a courtesy call to let us know that the studio was now actively looking to hire another filmmaker for both projects."

The director expressed his disappointment over the situation: "We've always assumed that we would be asked to make The Hobbit and possibly this second film, back to back, as we did the original movies. We assumed that our lawsuit with the studio would come to a natural conclusion and we would then be free to discuss our ideas with the studio, get excited and jump on board.

The aforementioned prequel reportedly bridges the gap between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

dear lord. after the LOTR trilogy and King Kong?? what exactly are these exec's thinking?

well it's official: The Hobbit is goign to suck big donkey balls.

if they get the right person it could be fine. if they got someone like tartakovsky it could be awesome - he's doing the new dark crystal movie. return of the king was pretty disappointing, though visually impressive.

$1,118,900,000 in worldwide ticket sales say you're in the minority here.

I personally thought the first 2 were also better than Return Of The King, but I still thought it was pretty damn good.

The studio doesn't give a rats ass who directs it now. They'll make money on it if they do nothing more than prance out some short white dude with harry feet and film him for a day.

I'm sure nobody cares but I thought the second and third movie were both better than the first, the first spent a lot of time setting things up, while the others had more action...

I can't believe Jackson kept every boring-ass minute of the end of the Return of the King but cut out Saruman's death.

    A-bloody-men

That was the most disappointing part of the whole damn trilogy. His death scene in the Shire, and the Hobbits coming "of age" was the key aspect of the entire series, IMO. I think that the entire work was leading up to that point, not the ring being thrown into the fire.
