I will have to add the card. It apparently comes with the high end packages.

Well, once you get the card it should come with all the software you need. Then you just hookup your VCR to it and BAM, there you go.

    Good luck.

Oh, another alternative is to purchase a stand alone DVD recorder. They retail for under 100 and you can use them as DVD players as well.

Most video editing programs come with a capture mode. What type of tape is it? MiniDV?

pinnacle makes decent video software. i have hollywood studio pro, but king or slomo would be the people to ask. it was simple enough to use for me - i only make dvds from minidv stuff.

I didn't even think of that. I was just thinking editing home movies.

How much are you looking to spend?

CC, if you want the easiest option, I would really consider the stand alone DVDR. You just plug the AV cables in and off you go. It is probably the least expensive option as well.

OK...we've already got a burner. You are saying that when I burn the video to DVD that I can then manipulate/edit the file without additional cards/software?

If you're looking to edit it, get an editing program. If you're just looking to put them on a dvd, hook it up to the burner.

As far as programs, the cheapest/easiest to learn is probably the Adobe Premiere Elements program. It'll be about 100-120.

If you are taking home movies & burning them to DVD format most people will prefer to have editing capabilities...Both Apple & Sonic have nice consumer programs for this...But in all honesty I have never used them... (Where is Slomo)
