Utah at 16-5 after tonight's win over the Mavs, started 12-1 but are 4-4 in their last 8 games.

Phoenix is 14-6, but needed an 11 game win streak after a 3-6 start to get their record back in the neighborhood of the Spurs.

Dallas is 14-7 after the loss tonight to Utah, and like the Suns needed a 12 game win streak to have a respectable record. Started 0-4 and now 2-3 since running off the win streak.

Outside of ending a heavy B2B schedule in November with 2 losses on the road, the Spurs have been consistently a 4-win then 1-loss type of team.

Yes, there are holes in the roster and we have a few weaknesses that are fairly easy to exploit, but what are these other top WC teams doing that are better than us? Starting hot but now playing mediocre? Long winning streaks sandwiched by periods of mediocrity?

While we can't ignore that the Suns are still in the midst of their win streak, the Lakers and Rockets are at the top of the WC along with everyone else by winning just like the Spurs have versus relying on long win streaks.

Not that a long win sreak would not be great, but the consistent play for the entire early part of the season is a bit more comforting than knowing we got here by having a hot streak coupled with ty play.

More accurately, it was a 1-5 start and they've needed a 13-1 record to get back in the thick of it. And that lone loss came in Utah in OT without Nash (although they did blow a 19-pt 4th quarter lead, which you can't do in the former Delta Center and expect to win).

Who's to say the Suns can't be a 4-win, then 1-loss team after their streak ends? They were a Raja Bell FT away from winning in regulation in SA when the chemistry wasn't quite there yet.
