Can Anyone Help Me Pick A (Musical) Keyboard?

So my son (eight) has been wanting a keyboard so that will be one of his gifts for Christmas, but I'm not looking for a kiddie toy, I'd like something I can use to learn as well.

I don't really know what to look for but I saw some nice Yamaha keyboards online, I'll probably buy locally because it's so close to Christmas, and I'm looking for something in the 100.00-200.00 range.

Any type of computer connection like MIDI or USB would be cool, I don't know exactly what they do but I have a computer and if I could get the sound off of the keyboard to record to MP3 or change key output sound via MIDI (if that's what it does) that would be cool...
