Something to do with Chinese culture I would guess
Why does Yao Ming have his first name on the back of his jersey, while everyone else has their past names on the backs of theirs?

In China the names are reversed, their last names are written like our first names.
His "last" name (surname) is Yao. That's why it's on the back of his jersey.
For Chinese people, the surname is the first name and the given name is written second.
Works for me. The wife and I were wondering that last night while watching the Rockets play Sister Mary's School For The Blind JV squad.

I love my Spurs, but this assessment of last night's game is perfect.
Personally, Kobe should just have "Kobe" on his jersey.
