Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich
On the game - “Milwaukee did a great job tonight. They scored enough points to win three games. We never stopped their offense and that’s the name of the game.”
On Milwaukee’s perimeter players - “We’ve not done a good job all year on defense. This is our worst defensive team in the last seven or eight years. Our players need to make up their minds if they want to continue to understand that is what wins games for us (defense) or if they want to make summer plans. This is the worst club defensively in the last seven or eight years and that’s the bottom line.”
Bruce Bowen
On the game - “It’s disappointing with our effort from our team. Defensively it’s something the coaching staff has prepared us for, talked to us and told us this is something we can’t continue to do. The message isn’t being received by us from the practice site to the game or here at the AT&T Center. It’s very disappointing. You can’t take anything away from Milwaukee because they play that style of play. They are a high octane team, but at the same time if we want to achieve the goals we have set it’s going to have to change as far as our defensive play right now.”
“It’s a matter of guys accepting the challenge now. It’s about playing the game that you love to play and the challenge of, hey I need to do better. If you make mistakes doing it the right way we can live with that. I don’t think the coaches would have a problem with that, but when we create different things along the way that we haven’t worked on in practice then that’s frustrating for the coaches and we as players have to understand we can’t keep giving them the amount of points we’re giving up.”
On missing three guys in the rotation - “That’s not an excuse. It’s an opportunity for others. Eric (Williams) stepped up tonight and did a great job. I think everybody who played tonight did a great job being that we were shorthanded. Defensively we need to do a better job and it starts with myself and guys who have been here. When we go over drills in practice there is a reason we are going over those drills. So we can have carry over into the game, but at some spots it gets lost. So it’s important for us to understand this can be a wake up call or a beginning of a long season.”
Tim Duncan
On On giving up 76 points in the paint - “It’s never happened. Not since I’ve been here. Defense is obviously a concern of ours right now. We gave up over a 100 points and we don’t win games like that. To keep it simple – we have to do a better job.”
On them keeping Tony out of the paint in the second half - “Yeah, I don’t know what their adjustment was. I think they packed it in a little more. I think he did a good job kind of getting there and then finding some shooters. The game is about adjustments and they did a great one in the second half and it worked.”
On Milwaukee - “They execute their plays very well and we didn’t react very well to them. They also made some tough shots. (Andrew)Bogut, Michael Redd and Mo Williams made some tough shots. Just a bad effort in the second half, to give up 59 and a 10-point lead.”

Let me get this straight. The Milwaukee Bucks were able to step up to the challenge defensively and the San Antonio Spurs were not.
"Let me get this straight."
yep, that's it, straight up.
Stotts/Bucks outcoached/outplayed/out-shot/out-adjusted/out-competed Pop/Spurs.
I hate watching the Spurs game when Manu is not playing.
so boutons, its all pop's fault?
I hate watching Spurs games when they don't put forth an effort.
that's why there are great scorers such as Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, AI, incl. Wade lately...you may pack it in, harass them, double-team them, they can still find ways to score..Tim Duncan: On them keeping Tony out of the paint in the second half - “Yeah, I don’t know what their adjustment was. I think they packed it in a little more. I think he did a good job kind of getting there and then finding some shooters. so Tony Parker isn't a good scorer?
he's a limited scorer
but pack the lane and force him to rely on his J and he's gonna be ed for the most part
lol typical myths
Unreal.
2-3 zone was employed by the Bucks in both halves. They tightened it up on penetration a bit more in the 2nd but TP wasn't as aggressive in the 2nd half, either.
TP wears down in the latter half of games.
The biggest problem, though, was the Spurs' inability to defend the screen/rolls when the Bucks spread the floor. The other Spurs didn't seem to want to leave their men to help the Bigs when Mo and Michael drove around the high screens. The Bigs were mostly slogging along after switching the screens.
This was mentioned in the game blog thread, but it seemed (in addition to getting clogged in the lane) he purposely looked for his teammates more in the 3rd quarter. He barely even shot at all. But then in the fourth quarter, when he tried to turn his scoring back on, he just didn't have it anymore.
Anyway, the Spurs didn't lose because TP's 24/10/7 wasn't enough. They lost because they gave up the lane on the other end. Hopefully they can get back on track defensively. I cringe at Spurs basketball lately.
Talk is cheap.
I am sorry but they are reapeating themselves, and talking about the same. No effect what so ever.
he is, but not as good as those i mentioned.
Glad I didn't have to watch this creamy, jelly, ultra soft defensive effort. Spurs just flat are not on TV in Brazil this month. Which is not necessarily a bad thing!
Ok I'll say it..We are a soft team again... we play soft when it matters most. Tim Duncan is the leader of this team and his play LATELY has been soft.. Tony is a finesse player and has been the second best player on our team..
We reek of softness and I despise that...![]()
when tp is the only slasher it hurts the spurs chances
why because they can gear their whole d on him
what the is happening to my Spurs???
Are you trying to compare Tony Parker to MJ, Kobe, and Wade? They are probably in the top 5 shooting guards of all time. Not to mention TP is a PG who is not even the franchise player on his team and is 6'2, 170 pounds. People pack the lane on him, he doesn't have the strength or build to push off through and get the "and 1" as often as those other players.
Flu, same with Barry and Bonner.
The Spurs are good at saying what needs to be said but they rarely do it. I'm not gonna be pleased until they do what they say they are gonna do.
Manu brings the effort to the game that the other players do not.
We're getting out-efforted a lot these days.
This loss is on Manu
