DR, don't take this the wrong way, but no ing way.

TYSON? Tyson is hardly even the best heavyweight you've seen in your lifetime. Their have been so many fighters that have been better, and been better longer then Tyson. He had only five years of supremecy with only three of those years being peppered with numerous fights rather then the two a year contenders fight nowadays. In fact, his first year as a pro, I believe he was 15-0 (which is pretty damn impressive). But he's not the best fighter of your lifetime though. I'd argue that Lennox Lewis and Holyfield were as good of heavyweights (not nearly as fun to watch though).

Mayweather Jr was/is better. Jones Jr, WAS better. Bernard Hopkins still is better. De La Hoya, even though I can't stand him, WAS better.

Frankly, I think you around the same age as me so you did get to catch (although not remember clearly) the tail end of Ali's career, Sugar Ray Leonard's career, Haglers career.

Tyson kicked ass and I loved watching him fight because he absolutely destroyed people, but he wasn't the best fighter of your lifetime.

If Tyson hadn't done jail time he would have gone down in history as one of the greatest. I think Lennox was better and I don't think De la Hoya isn't better than Mayweather but we'll know for sure shortly.

I really don't think Oscar has beaten anyone go back and look he either lost when he should have won or beat some washup former quality fighter. I agree Hopkins is better.

Paciquao (sp) is on the up and up and I don't think anyone can touch him. I sure do miss the old Gatti too.

All this talk is making me nostalgic for when boxing was somewhat enjoyable to watch. I'm almost ready to officially make the switch over to UFC. At least all their good fights don't end in some ty decision that shouldn't have gone the way it did (at least the few fights I've watched).

Boxing sorely needs another Mike Tyson. Someone that comes in and is exciting and just destroys everyone.

In my opinion, when the heavyweight division is down, so is the rest of boxing because causal fans don't really follow lower weight classes. Sure there are the intense fans (such as myself) that could reel off the names of 100 fighters that I've found more fun to watch then the current champions in all the weight classes, but these such fans are few and far between.

Oh, and De La Hoya's prime is past. He's done and will prove it once again in this fight.

I don't even watch Heavyweights anymore. I don't even know if a up and coming Heavyweight would even help. Less PPV would do wonders for the sport. Hard to follow anything that'll cost you 50 bucks twice a month to see.

Yeah that's a good point. I remember getting to watch Tyson on HBO when I was a kid. Those were good times.
