Other than the fact that in '08, the Democrats will win the White House...

I keep hearing people referring to '08. Can someone tell me what possible options we're looking at in '08?

Thats when the only people under contract are the big 3. Thats when the Spurs can try and sign another big time player.

    Dwight Howard?

    Ha ha ha....

The plan is '08 but the big plan is 2010, when nearly 30 million come off the books with Manu and Timmy.

But, by '08 the Spurs are going to be young with some money to play with.

    Parker, Ginobili, White/Sanikidze, Duncan, Butler/Mahini
(Not including the 3 picks the Spurs plan on using this year with this draft being the deepest in years)

The plan is to have a lot of cap space and then realize that it's impossible to get players coming off rookie contracts and then be forced to scramble to give away the cap space to players who don't really deserve it. In other words, the same thing that always happens when the Spurs open up cap space.

bingo!!! when will the spurs realize that they are not a preferred destination for most players and the only way to get great players here is by trade or draft. otherwise we'll be stuck with stars that are former s s of themselves ala van e, finley, terry porter, j. kersey...etc who all came in the waning days of their careers to chase a championship.

Obama or Hillary? I guess if one of them win then we can expect Memphis to win the championship.

Rasho has a player option for the last year of his contract.
If he opts out (he likely will because he is underpaid), Spurs can try to get him back by offering him a $60M/5 years contract.

    '08 plan = Rasho plan.

My guess would be that the Spurs will raid one of two notoriously CHEAP ing franchises: ATL or CHA. Okafor or Josh Smith would be Okey dokey.

If Utah drew in Carlos Boozer, I think it's possible that the Spurs can bring in a talented young player... they just have to be intelligent about which ones to go for (No more chasing Jason Kidd and Jermaine Oneil types)

the odds of luring an established star away from his team are only slightly above zero. you can use cap space to overpay for a player who you hope can break out. that's not really the smartest way to do things, but given that we aren't looking at a lottery pick any time soon, it may be the only way to bring in an impact guy to join the big 3 (as two of them head into their twilight).

Let's tank this season and enter the lottery this summer for Greg Oden. Keep the cycle going. That's the '07 plan.

From here I see, like a few others here, a younger team w/ Duncan-Ginobili undertaking a modified R. Horry role (early season anyways) and a shift by TPark to the top of the heap, doing a J. Kidd leadership assists-going for broke late in the game. Maybe younger means faster so that would make sense.

Defending the le for '08, that's the one for me!

    Sad, but most likely true.
