I'd like to see someone, anyone, in D.C. nut up and do what needs to be done on the border.

"According to the Border Patrol, an unknown number of gunmen attacked the site .... The Border Patrol will not say whether shots were fired."

    W T F ?

"gunman", but no shots were fired?

How does a gunman "attack" without firing his gun?

How were the Nat Guard "overrun" by gun-toting Mexicans if no shots were fired?

The Mexicans "out ran" the Nat Guard?

Are the Nat Guard too ing obese to keep up with the scrawny Mexicans?

Of course, we must infinitely, eternally trust the Repugs with Nat Sec.

I have a buddy who is an ICE agent and worked for about six months along the border in Arizona. He says the Mexican drug runners have technology that is damn near as good as anything we have and is much better then anything the border patrol has.

"The Border Patrol will not say whether shots were fired."

I RIFfed that, of course, trying to see if I mis-read this confusing article.

Why won't they say if shots were fired?
If they were fired upon, were they afraid they'd lose their job if they fired back?

Anyway, this is just Agggie's knee jerking about anything to do with MX border security (a radical right talking point), when, by far and away, the biggest vulnerability and security exposure to the USA is not at the MX border but the Repug disaster in Iraq.

You're a dumbass boutons. I know a lot of liberal folks who feel our border with Mexico is one of our biggest problems as a nation. They're anything but radical right wingers

As for whether or not shots were fired...

Considering the culprits retreated to Mexico, did you ever stop to think we're trying to lay a trap for them to come back and get busted?

Or maybe someone was injured and they don't want to say anything until families or notified?

I know it's hard for you. If you had your way everyone in this country would be speaking Spanish or Farsi and we'd have universal health care (and be paying about 50% of our income to take care of it).

the biggest ACTUAL/CURRENT/TODAY/IMMEDIATE/MID-TERM-FUTURE problem is IRAQ.

    not the borders.

The Repugs have ed up border security just like they ed up everything else for 6+ years, but the borders are POTENTIAL problem. IRAQ is an ACTUAL problem.

Why dont we just nuke our problems away?
Nuke mecca, the entire middle east, bring troops to protect our borders, then go back into the ME years from now when the radiation has at least thinned out in the area and suck out all the oil?

They shot a unarmed mexican in the back who was running back across the river.

My guess is those 5000 Al Queda sympathisers that were supposed to already be in the U.S. in 2001 before the Afghan war had a change of heart.

Anyway...back to the original topic. So a group of armed men attacked a reserve outlook post, but nobody knows if any shots were ever fired because everyone fled. And this is news, why?

I haven't been able to find more news on this thing, but honestly - are you saying it was okay for a Border Patrol/Reserve Unit post to be attacked if they *didn't* have guns?

    Pretty flawed logic.

These guys were either coyotes or drug runners, either way, carrying weapons is becoming much more common because of border bandits who prey on crossers, vigilantees, and the ongoing drug war in the border area. It's not like these guys were leading an invasion into the U.S.. Besides, I thought it was a bad idea to put the Army on the border without them being able to defend themselves in the first place, remember they are only there to observe and report. It's all about P.R..
