Silly question - Elvis in a landslide.

James Brown only has one factor working in his favor here.

That said, James Brown was excellent.

Comparing Elvis to James Brown is akin to comparing The Beatles to The Beach Boys.

Why can't we all get along?

Elvis is certainly bigger and made more jack but this is about personal preference, since I didn't exactly verbalize the specific criteria.

I'm old enough to remember some early "Beatles or Dave Clark 5?" debates. We all know how that turned out.

But you said King. James Brown has never been known as the King.

Yes, we all know he called himself the "Godfather of Soul".

But he's the King of Soul.

2nd only to Elvis in hit records. He is number 1 in R&B hits with
over 116 charted hits during his career.
James Brown has 96 top 100 hits, Aretha Franklin 86
James Brown has 116 R&B hits, Aretha Franklin 90+

Now look'a here son, if Aretha is the Queen of Soul, then James Brown is the King of Soul.

I'm sorry, but you do not have the authority to bestow that le upon him. That le is currently vacant. JB is the Godfather of Soul.
