If you thought Troy Smith was going in the 1st round in the first place you had to have been on that good ......
Last year this game helped hype VY into the 3rd pick, tonight i think troy smith just dropped out of the first round maybe even farther. It's just one game but it's clear Troy Smith will not be a good NFL QB. He's too short for a NFL QB, doesn't have the quickness or speed of Vick (who's also short) and isn't an accurate passer. Last year Young had like 450 yards total offense, tonight Smith had 6 total yards.![]()
If you thought Troy Smith was going in the 1st round in the first place you had to have been on that good ......
I think i've seen a couple early mock drafts that had Smith in the 1st, ESPN had been hyping him big time like he was the next VY so how knows. Smith will probably playing WR on the dolphins next season.![]()
Apparently he's already the third QB to be picked (according to some pundits), with Brady Quinn and now LSU's QB ahead of him.
Once again the heisman trophy is made out to be totally utterly useless and meaningless.
Heisman trophy winners damn near always lose the big game....
It has to be because of all the parties and banquets that Troy Smith had to go to, due to him winning the trophy. Thats the only real reason he played bad today.
I think it killed it. I thought he would go second round before this. Now, late third, early fourth. He hasn't the ability to evade elite-level defenders, nor the height to pass over the top of them. Frankly, I'm not seeing any good stemming from this game.
He's had some monsters, but this one hurts as much as those helped.
Troy Smith was never going in the first round. He is more of 3rd-4th rounder.
Overrated--more overrated than Jason Terry, Devin Harris, John David Booty, the Ting Brothers, Jason White, and USC's defense combined.
I ing said it all season, the only reason his lame buckeye ass won the heisman was because he was predicted to win it in the preseason. THE ONLY REASON.
At USC, more like John David "I GET SO MUCH ASS THAT I HAVE JOKES MADE ABOUT MY LAST NAME BEING..." Booty.
Meh, one game is just one game. They did take away his biggest weapon. Losing your bowl game doesn't mean you weren't the best player in college football. OSU beats UT and some of you just love to hate.
exactly. nice post Manny.
...correct me if i am wrong, but isn't the Heisman a CFB award? cause i am pretty sure it is....and it matters not what those players do later in the NFL.
I dont know what it is, but correct me if I am wrong but you denied colt mccoy any serious heisman consideration, even though their final season stats are almost identical: you, johngateswhiteley, denied colt mccoy any serious heisman consideration. Stats back up the argument against you, but oh wait, thats right, you base almost your entire USC dominance arguments on stats.
If you want me to seriously look up each time you pointed to stats to back up your claims to how bad ass Matt Leinart is, I will. Actually I wont have to cuz everyone knows you do it.
So I noticed you gloss over Troy Smith's performance as "just one game" but you never accept the "just one game" argument when it goes against someone you dont like.
You, sir, are a of the highest order.
He dropped big time. Everyone who knows football has been saying that Smith isn't half as good as Quinn. Now the OSU fans have to see it after seeing NFL speed and what their QB did with it. NFL scouts had to see he's going to need a lot of work.
exactly right...awesome post.
P.S. notice when someone posts something that agrees with JGW in the slightest, he always says "nice post". If they disagree, he just goes off saying how wrong it is. I did not realize he was the authority on the art of a "nice post".
Some were saying UT fans were like Mav fans but the closest thing to a Mav fan on this board is JGW. He never admits when he is wrong, I talk alot of but at least I'll fess up and say yes i was bloatally wrong. He'll never admit his team has any weakness or acknowledge the argument that his team is overrated.
If Seattle drafted him, they could move Seneca Wallace to wideout.
Man, JGW doesn't do any admitting but to call someone a Mavs fan is pretty in' WRONG!
I think most people would rather admit to their mom being a 1-eyed crack with acne than admit to being a Mavs fan.![]()
In JGW's defense, the past 2 Heisman winning QBs from USC have been pretty good pros thus far. I've always hated SC - being an ASU fan - but I want to see Leinart do well for the Cards, and Carson Palmer has really impressed me after I thought he would bust. When you look at the long line of Heisman QB busts (Crouch, Weinke, Wuerffel, Heath Shuler, Andre Ware, Gino Toretta, the list goes on), that's pretty impressive that the same school has produced good pro QBs about 3 yrs apart. I'm not saying SC just produces great pros, because I don't know if Reggie Bush will ever live up to the hype, but I still have to give them credit with Palmer and Leinart and that's tough for me to do.
Still, ESPN started running a TON of articles after Smith won the Heisman praising him for this and that and wondering why he doesn't get the "hype" of Brady Quinn. Well, ESPN s, Monday night is the reason he doesn't get all that hype. Brady might not have had a great game in the Sugar Bowl, but I think LSU has an even better defense than Florida and Brady put up more than 35 passing yards...
Charlie Ward is probably the only other Heisman QB with an impressive career - haha.
